It was easy to found, got on the shuttle boat right away and were on the island in no time. The captain told us the mangrove trail was closed because the latest hurricane had damaged the passage way (most of it is a suspended stilts) but we ventured just the same to find out that there are no real damage to the structure. Unfortunately it looks like it was almost abandoned. The city maintains it, so maybe they don't have the budget. It's too bad because it was really a nice walk. We saw turtles, iguanas, birds. Bathroom facilities very clean. We stayed 2 hours which gave us just enough time to see it all. We were pleased to be able to disconnect from busy beaches, and trafic and find ourselves in nature. And yes there are lots of spiders webs. Take a branch before you leave and look out for the web on the trails. They're inoffensive but pretty big.

I was in the area visiting my Mom who doesn't really go to parks like I do. This was only 15 min walk for me to get to the boat landing. I hit it in morning and the boat capt pointed out a few iguanas sunning themselves up high in tree limbs. I was the only one on the boat besides capt and mate and janitor services person. Pretty cool. I did not see any turtles :( but saw a nest (I think) and spiders. We saw a raccoon as we were leaving. Some of the trails were closed but there were still much to be explored. I would recommend this park to anyone who is looking for a little bit of a natural setting. I'm so jelly of those who saw turtles but I still had a great time. Congrats Broward Co & Deerfield Beach!

This is a great place to go to during the weekends. Easy to find and easy to travel to. Nice facilities.

First this is a park that is run by Broward county and access is only by boat and the shuttle they have is free (give a couple of bucks in a tip if you can)and runs on the weekend only. I was pleasantly surprised to see what it had to offer . You can spend as little as 45 minutes to 3-4 hours on the island. You can even have a BBQ however everything is bring it yourself as nothing is available on the island. There are very clean bathroom facilities so need to worry about that. The one negative I had is that there were a number of signs obviously giving some info about the wildlife or plant life that were so old they were faded out and as such you missed out on this info. This needs to be revived.Hints:- go in the morning when there is a little more action and the heat is so tough. - Be ready to deal see spiders. They are not dangerous but they are big. The operators clear the paths in the morning but you need to be on the lookout if you decide to venture off the trails. I suggest picking up a dead palm branch to use in clearing any areas you want to go that have some webs in the way.- Don't make a lot of noise when walking the paths, and look far ahead before looking from side to side as you can see the wildlife. We saw a raccoon walking the path up ahead of us and a 3-4 ft iguana crossed our path. We also were able to catch up with 3 turtles.- Don't be shy to ask the operators working if they had seen any turtles. They often know where the nests are and might be able to help you catch a glimpse of them. -Typically the boat going to the island leaves on the hour, and it comes back at 10 minutes to the hour.-Take your time and enjoy the jungle of an island you are on in the middle of one of the more expensive areas in the US. It is nice to be able to jump on a 3 minute boat ride and sort of go back in time.

This is a hidden gem in Deerfield - a great break from the urban world. Its a good weekend getaway but does not consume too much time.

We've been wanting to check out this little island for some time now as we drive by it frequently. It was a great nature hike for no fee at all. Shuttles to and from island run right on time. Trails and island in general very well kept. Was nice to visit a place right int he middle of the city and not hear any traffic or outside noise. Was very quiet and peaceful.

Nice casual walk in the shade if your feeling energetic walk it twice or walk 5 miles in the sun.Seating n bbq availible yes you must provide your own food for a picnic but some FOLK expect someone to provide this food but I love this little jungle I found! And did I mention its free although a tip never hurt anyone.

IT was fun, we went on a night tour the first of its kind and learned alot about the island. We learned about the gopher tortoise that lived on the island and that you can boat to it for free. Would love to go back!

On weekends, a shuttle boat brings you across the river to the island. it takes about 5 minutes to get across, and you can see the whole little island within an hour, maybe two if you are really taking your time. There are restrooms and a soda vending machine, you need to bring food if you want to picnic there. There are tables. Bring bug spray and a camera.

Nice place to explore. Not a lot t do there but worth going to. Would be a nice place to have a BBQ, but lugging everything over would be a chore.

This lovely park is a great find...free boat transport to a small island with nature trails. Best part of your visit will be sitting on the intercoastal watching the boats go by. Bring your lunch, fishing rod, or paints and enjoy a beautiful shaded venue!! Handicap parking available.

The free 5 minute boat to the Island leaves every hour from Sullivan Park from 10AM thru 3 PM during the summer. We were checking to see if this might be a good place to take our grandsons when they visit. I don't think the dock area would be safe foy young kids, as it has a floating dock and there is a 45 degree incline section to reach the island. The island itself was nice and we enjoyed walking the two trails. We saw a gopher turtle and a few birds, but not much else exciting. There is a very small playground and clean bathrooms. There are also water fountains in several places around the trails. Everything is well marked and there are a few signs identifying plants and animals. It was a nice way to spend a couple of hours, but nothing exciting.

We recently visited the island on a whim; we are so glad we did! You can access the island via a small ferry which runs on the hour every hour from 10 am to 4 pm on the weekends. (I'd check for updated hours as a previous reviewer experienced different hours.) If you have your own small boat, you can access the 6-slip marina on a first-come, first-served basis. (Not a boater, I do not recall the maximum boat length.) The park provides restrooms, a pop machine, lots of picnic tables, a playground, and two short nature walks. I agree with Heidi F: bring a book and a lunch, then, relax and enjoy getting away from the bustle of tourism all around the island. (A note: if you have a disabled or elderly member in your party, plan your visit to coincide with high tide. Otherwise, exiting/entering the ferry requires navigating a steeply sloped ramp.)

This was on our Summer list of to-dos because we never knew about it. We read reviews on tripadvisor and planned our trip. Shuttle is scheduled for every hour, we missed the shuttle by a minute and saw it going away, but the driver to us over as soon as he got back (great driver). I would recommend going on the first shuttle of the day or during cooler whether, it was hot. The island has a couple of trails to explore, a playground, restrooms and a pavilion next to a volley ball net. I rated it average only because there is not beach to enjoy while u are hear. It would be a cool place to stop and explore from your own private boat. There are gopher turtles on the island but we didn't see any.

Pack a lunch...take the little ferry over and enjoy paradise!Bring a book and stay for the day. You can fish there. You can pretend you have your own island.
