I have played this course for the past 2 years with a number of friends who likewise live in Florida. We have played here 2x per week for 50+ weeks of the year. They are now catering to their winter (snowbirds) visitors and have shut off the regulars who keep them open during the summer. Most of us are looking for other courses that are open to having a year round attendance. We have found Bloomingdale which has a more friendly atmosphere and is by far better maintained. If you are a snowbird, then this may be your course. If you are a year round Florida player, you will likely have to wait till it thaws up north to get on this course unless you are willing to be put in the back of the pack. Furthermore, when we call the office to talk to someone, they are not willing to call you back. Gone elsewhere where they want our business.
I have been playing DH frequently for some 10+ years. The course conditions have improved by quantum leaps and continues to do so. Play is expanding but there is usually no problem getting on. The staff works hard at trying to accommodate those who arrive with and without tee times and are very forthcoming about what is happening that may affect play. I say this about the early morning, early afternoon staff. I am not so convinced that the afternoon staff has the training or experience to provide great customer service.
New owners have done a good job on the course.. Greens are getting better.. Trees are cut which gives course a great look.. Fairways are getting better.. For one of the only courses in the area that offers the hills it is great to play. I am not a fan of flat courses but play everywhere that I can.. I'd recommend this course to anyone.. Fun play and nice folks running it.. I still play there every weekend..
I have a couple of local friends that have played this course many times before. The conditions were usually poor. Now it is under new ownership and you can see that they are pouring a lot of effort into the course. We go out at 8:30 am every Tuesday and walk right on. Not a crowd as the golf groups play earlier in the day and are on the back 9 about the time we are teeing off. We play at a leisurely pace and enjoy ourselves. The greens are in fabulous condition and some of the best in the immediate area. Surprised us when we first played this year. We play a number of courses and these are by far the best. The course is being well maintained. Staff is friendly. If you want a course without the crowd, this is the one. Reasonable cost for a morning start.
Will never play this course again!!! There was a league set up to play on Wednesday. Two of us went and ask to play the back 9 first since the league was starting an hour later. We played the back nine in one hour. When we moved to the front nine we were behind a group of players hitting 100 yard drives and teeing off twice. Half hour later on hole #2, we called the clubhouse to have them talk to the group about pace of play. The ranger came and just told them that we were complaining. Nothing happened and an hour fifteen minutes later on hole 4 we just gave up and left. Went to the clubhouse to ask what weekdays they didn't have any league playing. The proshop door was locked with a couple of employees inside. When I knocked they just looked and told me to go around to get in. This is a new administration and they are trying to improve the course. Greens are very slow because they have not been cut. Fairways have a lot of weeds. I can deal with slow greens and weeds but being expected to spend three hours on nine holes is not acceptable. Any decent course will have a Ranger going around and taking care of pace of play.
