We have been wanting to kayak at Fort Desoto for quite some time following a camping trip a few months ago. They advertise having a trail and "Includes a guide book that tells about the history, plants and creatures you'll see along the way!" But advertising and delivering are two different things. They advertise on the website that they open at 9:00. We arrived at 9:30 and the business was locked up. I called the number on the website and on the message, it told me to call the bike rental location. I called there and was referred back to the same number I just called. But we weren't about to give up since we drove over and hour and a half from our house to Fort Desoto for our kayak adventure. So we drove up to the bike rental location only to find out it was also closed. On the way back to the kayak rental, we noticed that they were finally open almost an hour and a half after they were advertised to be open. When we checked in, the prices on their board did not match the priced on the website. We rented 2 single and a tandem kayak which was supposed to be $98 and turned out to be more. We were never given a guide to the tour, just a single page hand drawn map with numbers on it to navigate the lagoons. From there we grabbed our kayaks and hit the water. The kayaks were pretty beat up and the paddles were extremely short, making for a tough paddle against the current heading into the bay. Once on the water we had a great time. The lagoons of the park make for a nice kayaking experience. When we completed the tour and returned the kayak, there was no customer interaction with the staff as they were too busy socializing in their building. I was just very disappointed with the customer service aspect of Top Water Kayak, the on the water portion was great but any involvement with the staff left a lot to be desired.
