Luis on calypso does an amazing job! I bring all of my students to his boat for training. He has a lot of experience and knowledge for divers of all levels especially technical diving! It's great diving!
Hey thanks for the great review. I hope to see you and your family soon!
I am the owner and Captain for Calypso Dive Charters “the nice one”. I am have been in the industry for over 24 years and every year we do the lobster mini season and every year you hear of all the dive accidents (not on our boat). Majority of them occur due to inexperience or divers that claim to be expert divers. In this case the gentleman making this review was asked all the proper questions but unfortunately he did not perform as an experienced diver and have selective memory. Please allow me to clarify both of our mistakes but in the end the reviewer is not on the news. 1. I asked for your Certification card and it was from the 1970's. 2. When setting the equipment on the boat you did not know how to put it together since you placed the regulator and BCD and regulation incorrectly. When the dive guide noticed all the air out leaking from the tank and your regulator was set up the wrong way and the dive guide had to set it up for you. At that point I asked you again and asked are you experienced enough to dive? Your response “I have been diving to 150 ft” 3. My response to him when he asked about nitrox vs air dives my response was you can make all your dives with air but they will be a lot shorter because you are diving at 90 ft of water. If you can handle that since you are so experienced you will be good. 4. If you don’t have a "rescue noodle" (better know and a safety buoy marker or “SMB”) we have them on the boat and on my briefing I always ask if all the divers know how to use them. 5. In 1975 all diver had dive tables and 2014 most divers have dive computer or bring their own dive computers, unfortunately you had none of them. At this point I handed him my personal computer and asked him “Do you know how to use dive computers?” his response “I am very experienced and had been in 150 ft of water”. At this point I directed the dive guide to stay with him and keep an eye on you. 5. The reason to have a dive guide is to make sure I (the captain) know were the divers are heading. Once he aborted the dive due to your inexperience had no marker to follow and created a stressful situation. If you need a dive master you arrange for one and pay for his services. The problem here is that some divers don’t realize that 50 dives in over 40 years do not make you an experienced diver. At the end of the day I agree with you, you had a terrible time on the boat since I made you sit the rest of the trip. You will also have to agree that you are not a lobster mini season dive accident. I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn from you and know if divers don’t have dive computers and claim to dive 150 ft deep, typically are not qualified divers, know how to plan their dives since recreational limits are up to 130 ft deep (this means that dive table only go to 130ft and you can’t plan dives beyond that depth since there are no maximum bottom times) and need to go back and take a refresher courses. By the way you left the boat and never paid us for the computer rental, tank rentals, SMB rental and dive master services but its all good, this one is on me since your rebirth day present.
Aboard Miss Jackie today for the first time. Great boat, fantastic Cap rain and Crew. Last activity of our Christmas vacation....great way to end the week!! Will definitely dive with this group again next year!
There is plenty of space on the boat for 6 divers. Capts. Tony and Luis are capable, personable, and show you a really great time. There is a nice indoor area to get out of foul weather, and a microwave for hot drinks in the winter. The boat is now at Lake Park Marina and we were given parking passes for free parking.
This is a great boat perfect drops and awesome crew and diving limited to six divers but not cramped what so ever best six pack by far
Went with my Son on a two tank dive. We were about ten minutes getting to the dock, having left from Orlando that morning. Capt was most understanding. Perfect day, took us to two great sites and most of all felt Safe! heard too many stories about the larger boats leaving someone behind , not counting the returning divers, etc...Smaller boat so it was really easy to count the six of us! Easy in and out of the water. Never had to wait for that 20th person still diving after 2 hours! The Wrecks were fantastic - Clear water, dropped us just in the right place for the drift dive. I'll definitely be going back. What's more - he gets a super recommendation to my Dive club!
had a great time, the captain is super friendly and very knowledgeable. weather was excellent and we saw a lot of cool underwater animals! I would recommend this to anyone. I'll definitely go back.
Had some really nice dives with Calypso Dive Charters! Nice, comfortable boat with plenty of room. The Captain, Tony, is extremely knowledgable and very helpful. The diving off Lantana is AWESOME! Will typically be drift dives, but beautiful reefs and wrecks with tons of undersea life!
