One of the best preserved old sugar mills in Florida. It was one the largest.Walking trails, a canoe launch, historic exhibits, fun for the whole family.
Go here in the winter or spring for fewer bugs! But learn the history, go kayaking or enjoy the trails! Camping nearby for those with RVs
This place is very secluded and off the beaten path. All that is left is ruins, but you get a good idea of the history behind the place, and how hard it was to raise and process sugar. It is educational and hard to believe all the hard work that went in to establishing this place - most of the work done by slaves. With all the modern wonders around, it does a person good to take a look at the hardships suffered by those who lived in the area before.Like all the Florida State Parks, it costs only $4 per vehicle and it is open every day of the year.
There is not much at this site besides the sugar mill ruins of limestone block. They do a good job of explaining the production of sugar and molasses. The Seminoles burned everything in the 1830's. No remains of the main house or any other wooden structures. Nice view of the river and nice forest trails through the old live oak and pines. Minimal fee. Nice place for a picnic.
This place was so authentic and educational...nice low cost way to learn about the area and its history. With time to walk some trails, and read the interpretive plaques, a family or couple can really get enjoyment and an education too! Don't miss the ruins!
Bulow Plantation is not that far from our winter home in Ormond - lots of history and an interesting story.
