shabbona lake state park

Shabbona Lake State Park is a beautiful oasis of trees and a lake in the middle of Illinois' corn and soybean fields. There's a restaurant that's only open seasonally, unfortunately, but it's good for a nice meal...great view! There is boat rental and a campground and the park fills on the 4th of July for fireworks. Great hiking trails, too. Wildlife can find a refuge here although seasonal hunting is allowed, and one of the few downsides of the park is that there times when the geese are so plentiful that one has to be careful where one steps. Our dogs love the place.
