Came here on our way back from East Peoria. Always pass by here but never stopped here until now. Was in Springfield and heard that this particular courthouse was where Lincoln practiced law before his presidency. The first floor had many artifacts from around Woodford County ranging from old spinning wheels to civil war items and old pianos and phones. The curator was very informative and friendly. There were many old photographs of the town and courthouse as far back as pre civil war. The court room was upstairs much like it was when Lincoln was there, well preserved and kept up. It shows his small town beginnings. Lincoln and Douglas debated in the park across the street back in 1858, during their famous senate race. A must stop for any history fanatic like me who was a knack for anything dealing with our presidents!!

This was a quick stop for us, but we wanted to visit a small town in Illinois and Metamora was a great fit. We enjoyed walking around the nice park, with the statues of Lincoln, and seeing it all lit up at night.

I always take visitors to see the Metamora Courthouse. Each time I've been impressed with the volunteer guide who brings Lincoln to life in his storytelling. You can picture Abe sitting at the desk with the cutout for his long legs! For such a small town, the amount of information and material displayed is phenomenal. This is a must see!!!!

Old courthouse with artifacts from the time of Abe Lincoln. The courtroom is exactly as it was when Lincoln was there. A museum with plenty to look at from the mid 19th centry. It's located in the town square.
