Went here to kill time waiting for my nephew to be let go on liberty. Many displays and very interesting.
Attended a boot camp graduation. The base is far more accessible, without traffic, than through Chicago. Encourage you to fly in and out of Milwaukee as a peaceful alternative.
If you have any questions about your sons or daughter future of the Navy this is a must see it show from old to new very impressed with our visit.
I visited while on leave in boot camp (99'-00'). As I was just joining the Navy, it was a memorable experience in the history that was to be my future.
I have been to many 4th of July fire works and parties. By far this is the best, better than Chicago's city sponsored events for the same date. You have a chance when you choose to go there for a very special experience. The fireworks, all I can say is WOW.The food, concerts, hospitality and carnival are great. The Base is beautifully kept up and I say go .
Went here with my two boys 10 and 14 as a summer break activity. We had a good time. Took about an hour and a half. Very informative. It is also free...can't beat that. They boys really enjoyed seeing all of the Navy stuff....good father son bonding. I would recommend it.
Small but informative. Worth an hour or so. Reasonably objective; doesn't soft-pedal the Navy's mistakes over the years (Segregation, treatment of women, Port Chicago disaster), and highlights all that the Navy has done, and does, for our Country.
We found this attraction in a tour book from Lake County, Illinois. We were on our way back from Kenosha and decided to see what was there. It is a small museum located at the front of the actual Naval Station. Turn an immediate left before you get to the real gates of the complex. The museum is just a few rooms, but it is chock full of naval history and the story of naval training, women in the navy, minorities in the navy, and the full training regimen of naval personnel. Great exhibit on Razzle Dazzle the camoflage used by the navy to "hide" ships at sea. Please check hours since they were only open from 1-5 on the day we went.
Went here to waste time to wait for my son after graduation. Neat place especially for kids and those interested in Naval History. Good place to get out of the cold.
If you like the Navy and you like History, you will not be disappointed here. A very nice little museum to visit. I like to walk around and read all about the things. If you are a museum type person, stop in and see this little gem. Worth your while if you have the time and inclination.
This is a wonderful place to learn about the history of the Navy. A good place to spend time with your sailor.
Very interesting dioramas and history. Good to know if you have a graduate! Dress warmly if you arrive in winter months, the wind is wicked out there and you must walk between buildings.
The road for the museum entrance is actually just past the entrance to the main gate for the base. Traveling north on Sheridan, continue through the traffic light at the main gate and turn right following the sign for visitors. The museum is located behind the visitors center building. You don't need to stop in the visitors center. This is a small museum but provides a nice overview into the Navy. Exhibits include displays on boot camp and women in the Navy. The museum also features changing exhibits throughout the year. In the past year they offered an exhibit on the War of 1812 and more recently one on the Civil War. What is intriguing about this museum is the opportunity to see artifacts from the era highlighted. There is a small gift shop. Food isn't available and the choices for food in the area are sparse. Take note of the hours before you go.Spending time here is an easy way to get to know more about the U.S. Navy. Follow them on facebook to find out about activities held at the museum.
