I visited this museum 3 times before I became a member. I really enjoy the Saturday 1PM lectures. The speakers come from all over the state. This is a place I will bring all my out-of-town guests. The setting evokes the Western Cowboy ethic.
Nice place to spend an hour. Great exhibit of western photographs. I enjoyed the western memorabilia. Lots of bronx statues on display. Beautiful building.
We just attended a presentation at the Phippen Museum that was full to overflowing. The museum sponsors regular events and quality speakers for the community to enjoy, plus houses a very high end collection of Western art, ranging from traditional to modern. It is a great place to spend a quiet afternoon, or to take out- of- town guests. The setting is lovely and the shop carries high quality art pieces and gifts. A stop worth making and a museum worth supporting!
A beautiful location and the museum is lovely with wood floors and large pine beams. The collection of art was wonderful, obviously a great deal of Phippens work in just about all mediums, but we also saw art by Wieghorst which is hard to find and we love being western movie fans. Many other westertn artists, lots of bronze work and when we were there a photography showing. If you are a western art can its a good place to go.
A great Western art Museum, a couple of miles North of town. Strongly suggest a visit. The artwork and the statue pieces are well worth the visit as is the Gift shop.

Interesting Western art with exhibitions by local, Arizona artists. Totally renovated with excellent exhibits and good narratives. Admission a bit pricey but well worth it.
A very attractive location, with wonderful western art in all mediums. A nice place to take out of town visitors.
The Phippen Museum recently added on a very large exhibit space, and what was on display was most impressive. You don't have to be a "cowboy and horse" fan to appreciate the art work. The smaller galleries had George Phippen's work and a recreation of his studio on display. They also have an impressive amount of bronze sculptures by Solon Borglum (brother of Guzon who did Mount Rushmore). It might take you an hour or so to visit - and the time is well spent.
"Excellent" was our opinion of this fine new building on a hilltop overlooking the granite dells. There are a number of exhibits well displayed on the first floor: fine art & sculpture, recreations of artists' studios, saddles, & related cowboy items. An exhibit of local horse paintings was amazingly high quality. The lower floor is currently mostly empty. We did get a AAA discount to $6 for entry. There are restrooms & water easily available, plus benches for seating. We were disappointed that the balcony overlook was closed that day. Staff was friendly & informative. A gift shop, too.
Not being familiar with this museum we decided to stop after visiting Watson Lake. For someone who likes Western Art and its development this museum is a must see. Part of the museum wasunder renovation so we weren't able to see everything the museum offers but it was still worthwhile. Our favorite part of the museum was the Ray Swanson area. This gentleman was so good with his work that some of the paintings looked like photographs. A must seek museum for anyone interested in art.
Wish the front desk told you the entire lower level is now empty and the special exhibit is not available so you have about 1 1/2 rooms of paintings to see and some rusted metal objects outdoor. Overpriced for the small collection. Paintings were good though.
The museum is small with the focus on local artists. you can get through the entire museum in about an hour.
This was a beautiful museum with so much beautiful western art. The outside area has many western sculpture pieces which were really nice and fun to take pictures by.
We headed north out of Prescott. It's quite a few miles to the Phippen, but well worth it. Entry cost is $7.00 per adult (no senior discount). Some absolutely beautiful painting and sculpture. There's an alcove of old west memorbilia (pistols, rifles, spurs, saddles, etc.) On the other side is a display about Will James, the author of "Smoky" Glad we we able to fit it in our schedule.Bought a couple of things at the gift shop too.
