This is a replica of the original fort. But sooooooo many artifacts have been found there!!! & Masny of them are on display in the visitors center. Beautiful displays!!! Soooooooooooo much cool stuff from Macon's beginning.

Ocmulgee Natl Monument is the draw here, but a block or two away is this Fort which has a rich history, run by a gentleman who really knows its history. It's free and not vast, but what is there reflects Macon's early days when Georgia was a colony.

I have lived in Macon most of my life and even lived by Fort Hawkins as a young child. But, I had never actually been inside the Fort. The history of the Fort and of Macon is just incredible and the staff is very knowledgeable!! We went after the grand opening of the visitor center, which is BEAUTIFUL!! It took us about 1 - 1 1/2 hours to go through it. It's worth a trip!!!

We visited here after the fantastic Ocmulugee park only to find it closed. Good vantage pint over Macon and we would have been fascinated to know more. Put more money into this tourist resource Macon City

We were out in the area and every time we drive by the fort it is closed. Well, it was open!! We pulled in and went inside the fort. It was pretty neat and the visitor center will be really nice when it is done. It would be really neat if this could be completed to what it used to look like. I am glad we finally were able to go inside. The volunteers/staff? were very nice and informative. We gave a donation since there is no fee, we would love to see this open more or completed to look like it used to. Thanks!!

We put Fort Hawkins on our to do list as it is one of a few attractions in Macon open on Sundays. What a gem it turned out to be. The gentleman staffing the site had the grandkids attention with stories explaining the archaeological significance of the site. I was really amazed when I stopped to consider how many different uses this block of land has seen over the past millennium. We spent a good hour + wandering around exploring the site and it generated lots of conversation on the way home.

My kids and I just happened to be riding by this site on our way to Ocmulgee mounds. I wish we would have had more time there because the guy that was working was the most impressive storyteller! He made history exciting to learn about and he was very entertaining. This place should be preserved for generations to come.

this is a cool place of forgotten history. The site of an old trading post has a replica blockhouse full of artifacts/relics dug from property. The site has great potential. The gentlemen who were there were very friendly and helpful. Their passion for the place enhanced my experience. Climb to the top of blockhouse for great views. To think of all that happened on this site is amazing=Indian trading post, war of 1812,civil war, general Oglethorpe and probably more than I can remember. The site is also a current archaeology dig site! This is a true Historical Gem! Free, donations accepted. Check the web site out for more details pf this interesting site.

This historic area was not properly protected. The Fort has a number of floors and some nice and interesting artifacts to look at. Just a small area on top of the hill remains fenced in. I can just imagine all the artifacts that were bulldozed over to build the closed up gas station and old vacant grocery store building under the hill along with all the old empty houses near it. Macon was once a boom town. Now it has many abandoned house and empty factories that used to employ the people that used to live in the empty homes. What a shame.
