The lodging itself needs a lot of work. I went to George T. Bagby to play some golf for a weekend and was greatly impressed. This state park has a fantastic course! Best in the area by far!

Not very much beach space. They dumped sand on a grassy area along the water and made it into a poor quality beach. This is a great area for family though. There is a playground right there near the "beach"

Bagby State Park is set in a beautiful location on Lake Walter George. The park's amenities include a beach/swimming area, picnic tabels, playground, hiking, marina, lodge and cottage rentals. We enjoyed a bike ride and the kids loved playing in the sand and swimming in the pool. We were happy to find that the pool was open so late in the season, and glad they had not closed it for the fall/winter yet. There isn't much in the area, so bring what you will need and, if staying at the lodge, plan to eat most meals in the restaurant, which is really good with great service. I would recommend this park for a short - or perhaps long - getaway!

When I started to plan our August 2013 family reunion, George T Bagby State Park was the best choice. With two types of lodging available with lodge (hotel) rooms or cottages (cabin rentals), this location was great for our family. Our family stayed in Cabin #4 for about $150. This cabin featured a beautiful, equipped kitchen, screened in porch with rocking chairs overlooking the lake, picnic table, firepit, living room with direct TV, large bathroom, dining room table with six chairs, and two bedrooms each with two double beds. The five cottages are on their own quiet lane and the first structure on the lane is a fish cleaning station. TIP: Cottage #1 allows pets, but books early. Cottage guests have access to all the amenities such as the pool and tennis courts at the lodge up the road. The lodge has just undergone a major renovation in the last six years and doubled their rooms! Friday nights feature an all you can eat seafood buffet at the lodge for about $17 per person. We had already made a decision to eat at Huggin' Molly's, a restaurant about 15 minutes away in Abbeville, AL which was fantastic. We also rented the group shelter for $215 for the Saturday family reunion. This was an incredible facility which could accommodate about 125 people with table and chairs. The large kitchen was perfect but we had to provide our own knives, can opener, ice, etc. The group shelter has an attached BBQ hut which is well ventilated and restrooms between the main hall and the BBQ hut. Its well lit, clean, with great air conditioning and surrounded by beautiful trees. We had access to the group shelter from 9am to 9pm! This will definitely be a repeat location for family reunions! If you intend to spend some time fishing, there is a gas station less than three miles away with a 24/7 fresh bait vending machine! Incredible! Note: If you have ATT as your cell phone provider, take note that it does not work at this state park as of August 2013.

We took a weekend getaway to this State Park in July. We stayed at the lodge. The rooms were very homey and clean. We had about 11 people in our group and rented 3 rooms at the lodge. The lodge was completely booked- there was some kind of family reunion going on but it was still peaceful and quiet. The staff was very very gracious and polite the whole time we were there. We ate the restaurant at the lodge- I believe it was called The Lighthouse. The food was good and prices were very reasonable. The only disappointing thing about the restaurant was that because of the large private party on our second night there our only dining choice was the buffet. It had many different choices but not what we were expecting. In fact we were not aware of this until we arrived to eat. We all had a great time. The grounds were well maintained and the scenery was beautiful. We will definitely visit again.

Just checked out today from a 2 night stay in the group cottage that sleeps 10. The cottage is NOT on the water. It has large amounts of mold growing on the ceiling; right up next to where you sleep in the bunkbeds. It rained last night and this morning you could see in the handicapped bathroom where the water had ran down the wall; hence why there is mold growing. Also let me mention the roaches!! I called the front desk and she said it was to late to do anything about it, but no one ever came the next day to spray. Today when checking out she asked about our stay, we mentioned the mold and she said " oh we must have a leak"! It's been leaking. Mold doesn't grow over night. With that answer we decided mentioning anything else wouldn't matter. As far as renting a boat... The marina only has Jon boats and canoes for rent.... We rented a Jon boat for $30 4 hr. it broke down and we had to paddle a ways back to shore. When we told the marina worker she said, oh you must have flooded it out. Although when my husband and sister Inlaw went to rent the boat they had a hard time getting it to crank. Let me knot fail to mention the dog poop on the beach by the playground. I understand things happen, but there was an unreal amount there. We did not walk around barefoot because it. Overall the state needs to come inspect and do a serious cleaning on the entire property and update the website! A refund was not asked for nor expected. Things happen, we live and learn.

It takes about 20 min. to get to downtown Eufaula, Alabama from this state park. The cabins are 2 BDR with only 1 Bath, & has a few steps. The apts. are motel style (on one floor) (no steps), and they are old, but clean.Sidewalk at the apts. takes you to the clubhouse, which includes conference rooms & a restaurant. Good southern food, fresh & delicious. Opt for meals on the patio outside if weather permits. Buffet style. Not a big state park, just a serene, peaceful place to relax. As far as I know, there are no outdoor activities. Eufaula is the Bass capitol of the world -- so don't miss out on a big one! Fry them up in the cabins. (Apts. do not have kitchens, as they are motel style.) Lakepoint marina is about 40 min. away, I believe. Super nice marina.

Our stay was excellent, the staff and Shawn B. were the best! We've started a new family tradition. The rooms were clean, and cold and the views of lake were breath taking!! Can't wait to go back!!

I stayed here while visiting Providence Canyon State Park. I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful lodge, situated next to the lake. The well-marked paths through the woods were inviting, and the pine needles made for a soft, quiet, and fragrant walk. I saw 2 bald eagles along the waterfront near sunset, on my 1st morning there, and again, after sunrise, the next morning - always a thrill! It was cold and blustery during my visit, but if I ever return to this neck of the woods, I will definitely stay again, rent a bike and/or a canoe, and walk in the woods some more. My room was furnished much more nicely than the photos in the online description at the Georgia State Parks website, and spotlessly clean. There is very limited cable, and sadly, I had NO cell phone or internet access. The lodge supposedly has wireless access, but my laptop could not connect due to its weak signal, and I was only 3 room away from the lobby. I saw several other guests in various locations, including the freezing outdoors, in contorted positions, trying to talk on their cell phones. They must not have AT&T, because at least they COULD talk! There is a nice restaraunt on site, which I did not try, since I was there alone, and the grounds were very clean and nicely maintained. The gift shop is extremely limited with snacks & drinks - bring your own. There is NO place within a quick drive to pick up grocery items, or eat out, so if that is something you need/want, do it before checking in!

Located on old Sandy Creek (Georgia Side of Chattahoochee River) in Lake Eufaula. This waterway is navigatable from at least Columbus Ga to Appalachicola FL - Gulf of Mexico. I taught my daughters to water ski in Sandy Creek before the Park was built. The Park is very nice and not far from the Marina in Lakepoint, AL. Rent a Pontoon boat and fish and have fun and dock it at the Bagby State Park.

This is one of the best secrets in Southwest Georgia! It is a great course that is not only beautiful but provides a challenge as well!

Our family trips to visit grandparents nearby always include a quick trip to GTB! Have been going there several times a year for dozens of years & never get tired of seeing the dam. My children now love going there, too. Picnic areas are always clean & we always see plenty of wildlife.

Spent one night here at the lodge in February. There was only one other car in the parking lot over night. Very quiet and peaceful. Our room was very clean and looked like it had been updated. Restaurant food was okay. Everyone was friendly.

I stay at the lodge several times a year because of business in Eufaula, Al. I like to stretch my legs and relax in the evening, and this is a great place for it. Lots of wildlife to view in the mornings and evenings. Your mobile phone will not work and less you walk down to the lake shore. The food at the lodge is adequate, actually unimpressive is more accurate. The rooms are clean, but they only have dispensed soap for the shower, so I bring my own. Nothing fancy, but I will keep coming back.

This is a good conference center and beautiful setting. But if you don't have the right cell phone provider you will not be able to contact anyone and GPS satellite could hardly find. Quiet and nice setting, but the rooms need a little TLC.
