Went to Crisson on 3/10/15 for a short day trip from Blue Ridge and we had a lovely time! The staff was super friendly and could not have been nicer. The restrooms were very clean and the gift shop was full of cute things. We panned for gold, only got about $8 worth of gold out of a $45 bag of dirt, but we still had a blast. We also did the $15 five gallon bucket of gems and got a few neat rocks. Highly recommend this place for families (best suited for kids at least 5) and anyone looking for a little adventure! We would definitely go here again.
Nice little family-owned place. The people are really informative and helpful, and we had a blast panning for our gold!
I have visited Crisson a couple of times and bought their gold concentrates and gem bags online. I have never been disappointed and have been very satisfied with their products (see photos from my most recent purchases). Panning their gold concentrates is a good winter activity!Their customer service is first class. I recently had a minor glitch with an order but Tammy responded very professionally and quickly. I look forward to visiting again soon.
Went to crisson gold mine to get my gold hog matting. Had great service an a whole lot of items to choose from. Tammy was friendly and very helpful. Pointed us to some great spots for gold in the area.
Kids enjoyed panning for gold and coming away with a tiny sample. Nice gift shop. Best for younger children.
We visited in December so most of the outdoor stuff was not active but seeing a stamp mills was impressive. The panning area was not impressive- but again it was the indoor set up not the outdoor one. The Gift Shop was very nice. Options to buy various amounts of paydirt to pan at home was very nice.
Having been a gold and gemstone prospector since retirement, My wife and I have returned a second time to Dahlonega, GA. The objective of this visit was to revisit the Crisson Gold Mine to attend a gold show given by "Doc" of the Gold Hog. I have followed this man since his business beginnings and truly admire his accomplishments as a business man and a gold prospecting professional. I would rate his accomplishments in gold prospecting equivalent or ahead of the "Massey's" on the West coast and founders of GPAA. If you have ever viewed one of Doc's videos at the Gold Hog, you will find him just as humorous and intelligent in real life. Congatulations Doc, you are a definite winner in my book. I must also mention the fact of the wonderful business, Crisson Gold Mine, owned and operated by Tony and Tammy Ray. This is a most positive place for a visit when traveling in the Dahlonega region. There is something for each family member. A well stocked retail shop, a hugely stocked inventory of items for the gold and gemstone prospector, beginning or accomplished, and so much to do and see for the history buff. I have visited most of the gold bearing sites in NC and GA and would rate the Crisson "Number One" on my list. You will also find the owners Tony and Tammy eager to assist you and to respond to all questions. Every member of the company is excessively curteous and always ready to assist a visitor. I was interested in adding a part to my high banker which all efforts to obtain from the manufacturer failed on my behalf. Tammy was able to get this part available for me within two hours. This is just one example of their response and capabilities. Don't miss your next travel opportunity in the Dahlonega, GA area to visit the Crisson Gold Mine.
Here you can purchase a pan to pan for gold and a bucket to find gems in the dirt.. Definitely a fun place for children of all age to experience a time long a go. Yes there is gold and gem in the products.
We stopped in to try our luck at gold mining! It was fun for awhile but the kids got board with it as they are 2 and 3 probably a little to young for this. The staff were very kind and patient with us.
First off, I am HUGE into reading reviews and making sure that I am not going to a place that is just total crap. If am not satisfied with the reviews then I will not go to that location. For the Crisson Gold Mine, I was torn between what to do. Not because of bad reviews but because there were two places in Dahlonega to pan for gold. The first place, that I had been to before (Years ago) was Consolidated Gold Mine, That place is more of a "here's the mine, pan for this gold that only have a couple flakes and have a good day." I don't mind that however I really wanted something different. I had read that Crisson was a tourist trap and that it was no good to find gold. I am glad I did not listen. The first few paragraphs are a general review. I have other sections labeled for what they are talking about. If you are wanting to just do gem recovery then scroll to that section. I also talk about other ways to pan and amounts of gold. I also explain the process of the larger tromel. My wife, my best friend, and I all wanted to pan for gold because it was their first time going to Dahlonega. Crisson gold mine was not one that you could see and "actual mine" that goes underground so if your looking for that, this is not the place. However, we were looking to just pan for gold. When we arrived at Crisson we walked into the store and walked around for a few moments. The only person working in the store was busy at the moment. As soon as she was finished, she asked if she could help us with anything and we told her we were just looking at that time. We then asked what kind of gold panning they had. We chose to do the test pan and bucket of gems. We were pleasantly surprised at the amount of gold we found in just that. No you are probably not going to make your money back but its fun and historically accurate. GEMS- My wife and friend enjoyed sifting for gems more than panning for Gold. They have options that allow you buy up to a wheel barrel of material with gems in it. We bought two of those, 50.00 a piece, and had a blast and found some really good stuff In them. For the Gold lovers- I have a love for finding gold apparently. I purchased a bucket of their high grade ore. I purchased the 30 gallon concentrate into a one gallon bucket ($85.00). That means that they took thirty of there one gallon bags and run it through a trammel and take what is in the sluice box then place it into a one gallon bucket and put some dirt with it. We asked if they picked what they wanted out of the sluice box and she stated that they did not. I believed her. She was telling the truth. For $10 I got to use on of the machines that pans it for you. As I was putting the material into the device I did not really see any gold. When it was all said and done they guy that was out there helping everyone came and cleaning it out for me. As SOON as he removed the top piece of the device I saw a pretty big picker or as I call it a smaller nugget. I ended up getting a pretty good bit of gold after I paned the end result and was very happy. No I probably did not make my money back but it is all about the experience. You have to remember they are an attraction and they too need to make money. You are not going to get rich doing it, however you may make your money back. Its like gambling. IF YOU WANT THE WHOLE DEAL!!! This is for the person that wants to do it all. They have an option that I did not try but will try next time I go. You can get a tractor bucket load of their material for 100.00 (that includes the 10.00 trammel renting fee) and run it through a rather large wash plant. With this option you may can find large amounts of gold, or find nothing. It really is like the real thing. The only thing you do not do is go get the material out of the ground yourself.
Our trip to the Crisson Gold mine was a great adventure. This was during the 'off season' in mid Dec, so we got there shortly after they opened and had the place to ourselve for a couple of hours. We opt'd to use a trommel and front end loader scoop of crushed ore. Let me explain the operation. The Crisson mine is an open pit mine somewhere nearby, where they collect the gold bearing quartz veins and bring it to the store/stamp mill/panning site. The ore is crushed with an historic stampmill where it ends up looking like a very coarse sand mixture. It is stored in a big pile where you select how much you want to pay for. You can select a pan, small bucket, large bucket, or a loader scoop! They also rent various equipment for you to use depending on the amount you buy. So, you never know how much gold is in the sand you get, but you are pretty much guaranteed to find some. It's alot of fun to spend an hour or two or all day. They also sell gemstone buckets you can search through. Scattered around the panning area are various pieces of historical gold mining equipment, really educational. The store has a huge collection gold prospecting equipment such as: dredges, metal detectors, sluice boxes, etc. Too much stuff to mention. Since the ore they mine is from quartz veins, they select some pieces and have 'gold in quartz' jewelry made from it. If you haven't seen this, it is beautiful. To sum it up, the Crisson Gold Mine is fun for all ages any season of the year. You never know if you might find that that big nugget.
I have been going to the Crisson Gold Mine since the late 1980's. Tony and Tammy are always very nice and helpful. In October 2014 my wife was on her way home from Florida and stopped to get me a 1 gallon concentrate can. I panned it sitting in my living room in Ohio. I am currently writing this review from my hotel room in Dahlonega where my wife and I arrived yesterday. We checked into our hotel, unloaded the car, and headed to the Crisson Mine where I panned 2 pans since it was getting late. Went back this morning for the tractor scoop in the trommel. I found 2 small nuggets and a LOT of flake. I have found gold with every visit to Crisson. It is always a good time at the mine! Highly recommended!!!!!!!
My husband and I had a great time celebrating our birthdays panning for gems. Would recommend this for all ages. The staff were very friendly and had alot of information.
Me and my Family went here for the weekend and we had the most fun. My Husband tried the new rock crushers they have and me with the kids we got the high grade gemstone buckets.. We came home with Gold and Gems. The Gems where not trash they where good quality and I am going to have some jewelry made for the girls to remember our time together in the little town of Dahlonega. And also we where surprised to see all the gold my husband found. There is real Gold in the rocks he crushed and we all had a laid back time .. We will make this a family outing for every year with the kids. Thank you Crisson Gold Mine .. Hope to see you again soon :)
I can not understand why she is saying we are Stingy. This person climbed over our fence behind the building. She was taking our Gold Bearing quartz that was there in a pile (behind the fence) for us to crush in our Stamp Mill for our Customers to pan. When she was approached her and her husband climbed back over the fence got into their car and sped out of the parking lot. Then they came back into the parking lot picked up a piece of gravel and brought it into the store and told me I should put up a sign if I don't want my rocks stolen. I didn't even get to speak to her before or after the incident.
