A.H. Stephens State Park in Crawfordville (not Crawford as indicated in the address here in TripAdvisor), Georgia offers a number of activities for adults, kids, and pets. It is very close to Interstate 20, so could make a good stop on long road trip. There was a $5 parking fee. I attended a "First Day Hike" on January 1st, guided by the Assistant Manager of the park. He led a small group on a two-mile walk along a couple of the park's well-manicured trails, pointing out beaver and other wildlife activity along the way. He also shared the Civilian Conservation Corps history of the park, including CCC buildings and infrastructure. He shared a little bit about the geocaching activities available in the park, as well as equestrian trails and fishing opportunities. There are tent sites, RV sites, and cabins - I will definitely visit again!

We went for a day trip. The home of A.H. Stephens, VP of the Confederate States of America is at the entrance. Small museum of Civil War artifacts and history of the area next door to the house. Small admission fee for both plus the park ranger gives a guided tour. The interior of the home contains either period pieces or pieces owned by Stephens / his family. Home now has A/C which made tour much more tolerable. The state park is nice and if you are horse rider, it has many horse trails (bring your own horse). Pond near visitors center with paddle boats which were fun for my children (and me!). Several picnic areas which are covered including ones with a large BBQ pit to do some serious grilling. Nature trail around lake to walk. Very wide trail so was easy to keep my children on and from wandering off it. Fun day for family. Looked like a good place for family reunions too as one was happening while we were there.

I spent a weekend in a cabin next to a small lake. The screened porch allowed me to watch the turtles, birds, and ducks in quiet solitude. The cabin was the best park cabin I have ever been in. It had a gas log fireplace, a satellite TV, a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, clean, spacious bathroom. It is more like a house than a cabin. The entire park is very well kept. I was traveling with my horse who enjoyed the stable which is not too far from the cabins. If you want a quiet place to stay off I20, this is a great option. Be aware though that the town is small with few dining options.

The park is great. We camped here in January. Had a great time. Nice sites, many pull through. Very well lead ranger programs. Very depressed area. Center of town is abandoned. Couldn't buy a gallon of milk anywhere close to the park. So have everything you need before you get here.

The Georgia Parks department has done well preserving and presenting the home of the CSA Vice President. The rangers there are very knowledgeable of the grounds and details of the period lifestyle. Great stop just off the freeway north of Atlanta

The amazing thing about the A.H. Stephens Historic Park is that you don't feel like you're seeing a historical place but instead returning to a time in history. This is in part due to the Stephens home being as was with much/most of its original furnishings. Also the entire Crawfordville scene is a step back in time, quiet, calm, beautiful and undisturbed. My wife and I were the only ones on the tour which was conducted by a knowledgeable and pleasant park service person, Raven. So, our recommendation is get off Interstate 20, find Crawfordville, Ga and get acquainted with Vice President Stephens and his life.

A H Stephens State Park has a really good location and is quiet and serene for visitors. It stays busy and can be hard to make reservations but if you plan far enough in advance you will enjoy the facility

Another one of my husband's mystery tours led us to this secluded off of the beaten path park. Just outside the main street in crawfordville, Ga this park is a small paradise. This pretty park west of Augusta is best known for its equestrian facilities, Confederate museum and lakeside group camp. Horseback riders can explore 12 miles of trails and stay overnight in their own primitive campground. Overnight guests can choose from lakeside cottages or a modern campground, while large groups can enjoy privacy in the park’s group camp or pioneer campground. The hike around the lake was nice yet peaceful. The campground has a lighthouse right in the middle. There is a playground for the kids, and a big field for frisbee or softball.

On our trip from Decatur to Augusta, we decided to visit A.H. Stephens State Historic Park. The park is conveniently located a few miles north of I-20, just outside of downtown Crawfordville, GA (pop. 534), site of several well-known movie productions. A good stop to stretch the legs (both human and canine), this 1177 acre park offers hiking trails, horse trails, fishing, pedal boats, camping, GeoCaching, and more. Stop by the visitor center for some local information, and some cracked corn for the friendly ducks.
