So happy that the Madrid Food Tour brought us here. We ended up spending most of our time after the tour and before heading to the airport at the Mercado San Miguel drinking vermouth and eating croquettes. It ended up being some of the best and most authentic food we ate while in Madrid. The biggest problem is the minimal seating.

You just have got to be here. One of my favourite places for food. Lots of tapas, pastries, seafood (yummy especially oysters). Sangria and beers for a few euro. The place is very cleaned. Opening Hours. 10am-midnight Sun-Wed, 10am-2am Thu-Sat. Just be wary about pick pockets. They could be dressed up like tourist trying to share tables and suddenly something disappear. Have fun eating.

Lots of taps, beer, drinks, wine, deserts all from different venders and all under one roof. Limited seating and tables but lots of people to meet and mingle with. Well worth a visit or two especially if you have limited time to sample many types of tapas. Prices are much higher than in the local neighbourhoods but comparable to the other tourist areas. Atmosphere is great and things are constantly cleaned up so it looks clean. I can recommend the sea urchin and crab as being really good.

Lots of food stalls in this old and renovated Mercado in Madrid. Close to Plaza Mayor and for lunch much more exiting to go to the market hall for some tapas. There is something for everyone. All very delicious. Not so cheap, but super fresh food. And a lively, crowded and funny place to visit at lunch time.

Loved the selection of food and drink at this conveniently located old market. Our group of four adults ate three times at this market. After attending a show at Flamenco Carboneras (just out the back door of the Market and left for a bit) we found the San Miguel open and lively at 10:30 pm filled with a mixture of tourists and locals. There are tables where you can stand and eat the food you buy from the large number of speciality stalls, there are few chairs. I understand there were pay washrooms downstairs. BEWARE THE PICKPOCKETS. KEEP YOUR PURSES CLOSED AND HANG ON TO THEM AT ALL TIMES. MANY PICKPOCKETS ARE FEMALE. Everything we tried at the market was delicious. We liked the market so much we went back the next day around 8 for "dinner". The third time we went to the market it was part of the Madrid Food Tour and we tried Reus Vermouth, and excellent tapas. The market was one of our favourite places in Madrid.

As many have review this is a great place if you are foodie or looking for great Tapas. Place had great selection, great prices and variety of tapas and non-tapas food to try. There's a lot of alcohol/bars to try different varietals and types of local beverages. Sitting area inside is a bit limited, but generally if one doesn't mind to wait for a bit, you can find at least a standing table. We weren't looking hard, but wish there was a more convenient WC/restroom, at a minimum maybe have some hand sanitizers bolted to the wall or on the beam/pillers. Wish we had time to come here every day/

Found this place when walking by. Thought it was a food market. It served some wonderful tapas , paella, beers and sangria,. It was difficult to pick what to eat. There is a bar, seating and eating area in the centre of the market. We chose some bits from different stalls and enjoyed it all.Would go back there again if we get to Madrid again.

Here's the flashy sexy version boasting beautifully lit stalls offering most of the same things you can get all over Madrid but in a sexy beautiful Hall full of sexy beautiful people and sexy beautiful food. I wouldn't consider this a traditional market in the sense it's not really where you go to buy your fresh ingredients-more like a glamorous food court and a sprinkling of things to take away. But tourists and locals alike seem to enjoy drinking and eating and floating from place to place to enjoy so many delicious offerings. I think the Whole Foods Market of Spain is a pretty good description but add in ridiculously beautiful soulful architecture and an artful re-do bringing this place straight into now.

We found this place by accident and were totally captivated by it. Fabulous fresh, delicious food. Loads of stalls where you can choose tapas style food and perch at small tables to enjoy it. Great atmosphere.

An Indoor Market where you can eat all sorts of everything - savoury and sweet and drink and be warm and socialise with people you have never met before - what fun..... Best selection of tapas in Madrid. We wish we had found this on the first day and not the last evening after dinner!! But my husband had a beer and I could have had a glass of champagne!!! We will be back to sample the variety of food.

If you're looking for a nice tapas selection, this is the place. But if you want a typical market experience, try mercado Mostenses a few blocks away.
