The best place for tapas and pintxo in the Basque Country but also the charm of the old city ! the Basque culture is everywhere and people are very friendly ! A visit to La Parte Vieja is a must when travelling in this area.

While there are many areas to San Sebastian, Parte Vieja is where most people (including myself) tend to gravitate towards for food and drink. There is a very large concentration of bars and restaurants and you shouldn't just come here for food in the evening but come during the daytime and enjoy the many independent shops. If you want the bigger brands then they are all situated in the nearby Centro district. One of my favourite parts is the wide open Constitución Plaza.Even though you can find Google Street View images of the Parte Vieja, don't expect to be able to drive down the streets. It is only open for access at certain times and only for deliveries or authorised vehicles.

This is the best place to stay when visiting San Sebastian. You're close to all the amazing pinxto bars, cute boutiques, two beaches, museums, restaurants, the underground market, and a great hike. We stayed on Calle 31 de agosto (August 31st Street-- weird name for a street, but it has historical significance). Even though we were just two girls, we felt completely safe and comfortable, even staying out late. And we could not say that about the rest of Spain. Highly recommended!

Don´t know why but this is one of the most unique Casco Viejos I´ve been to in all Spain. But then the same can be said of most of San Sebastian, and maybe it´s the chilled vibe from being a beach town. Cute little shops, restaurants and bars lined up in tight streets and tons of pensions on tops, near the mount as well as other big avenues, but still, quite charming.

My wife and i spent each evening of our recent 3 night stay in San Sebastian walking the streets and drinking from bar to bar, sampling Rioja, Kalimotxo and consuming our bodyweight in delicious Pintxos. All of the bars were really friendly, each Chef taking pride in their gastronomic creations, some were closer to artwork than food and it appeared to be a shame to eat them (but i got over it). I'd like to be able to recommend some bars individually but after absorbing the infectious Basque atmosphere of the narrow alleys and lively streets of Parte Vieja i'm totally unable to remember my favourites! Cracking - Party On!

Parte viejo is a lovely place to wander. Lots to see and do, lots of Pintxos bars where you can have a beer and fantastic snacks. The people are friendly, and the vibe is typically spanish with lots of families and friends meeting to chat

Parte Vieja is a very vibrant and fun place to be soaked in the Spanish culture of tapas and party. Everybody seems to head down here to have a drink, and just catch up with everyone else. The fun is contagious and I will recommend anyone to visit this old town and some of the best pintxos bars are found here too!

People were awesome apart from 1 pension do not go to. The woman is a witch had to look for accommodation at 1 am the whole town helped. It helps if you've got a few Sangrias down your neck

This place seemed to be permanently busy, lots of pinchos, tapas, small bars and people. The small shops are also wonderful with lots of different and exquisite things to purchase. We stayed opposite La Concha beach and just wandered in and out of here as we desired - it is very busy and also a bit dark- high buildings block the sun. If you are into the nightlife - stay here but we preferred the beach. It is very beautiful and historical.

I have traveled to San Sebastian, Spain on many occasions, even in fact, once living in a nearby town called Zarautz. San Sebastian has both lovely beaches, shopping areas, wonderful hotels, and especially, great restaurants. It is one of my favorite places on earth.

Enjoy the pincho scene by night, going from one to the other. Very lively. By day visit sights such as San Telmo Church with wonderful paintings by Catalan last century artist Sert, depicting main features of Basque character.

I visited the old town with a Greeter from Donostia-San Sebastian Greeters. She showed me very interesting buildings and told me about the gastronomic societies and the history behind the street August 31.

This is what San Sebastian is all about. If I had it to do over again, I'd have booked accommodations in the old town rather than 12 minute walk away on the bay!

The oldest part of San Sebastian with many interesting restaurants, pintxos bars and shops including clothing stores, food markets and bakeries.
