Take the walk across the bridge to the tower. An insight into the Islamic history and if you are bold enough the walk up the tower and the views are worth it.
Don't miss this unique museum, the best introduction to Còrdoba and its unique history of peaceful living together of religions.
With a blue sky behind it there is nothing more impressive than a well preserved piece of history. The museum inside is not well advertised and therefore does not draw people inside.
Right across the river from the old town- this small well-maintained tower presented some very interesting and atmospheric information about the towns ancient Islamic past. The only spoiler was the English audit guide which used a terrible 1940s BBC accent! Cheap entry. Three stories - stairs only. No food or toilets.
Build for controlling entrance to city cordoba, on the old roman bridge. It has a very nice appearance from a little bit far from building. Not inavitable, but if you have time go inside and learn about life in 14. Century.
Boring audio tour with a view that's no better than the one you get on the bridge.Banal, trite, and a waste of time. So many better things to do in Córdoba.
This 14th Century tower is a scenic view-point at far end of Cordoba's Roman Bridge. Inside, it contains an informative 'journey' through Andalusian cultural history & culture, focused on overlapping Jewish, Moslem & Christian contributions in science, music and architecture. Good for 'history buffs'.
Its a very nice museum. it was 5.00 Euros and the audioguide is included. You can learn a lot abot the old Córdoba listening and looking miniatures, statues, instruments from the city etc. On the top of roof theres a nice view from Córdoba too. I recomend as a small and great museum
There 3 small rooms to visit by audio tour (which is included in the €2,50 entrance). The displays are rather old fashioned and the info not interesting. Definately would not recommend anyone to go here.
At one of the Roman Bridge, the Calahorra Tower of Cordoba now houses the Museum of Al-Andalus. The tower was started in the 12th century as a guarding post at the entrance of Cordoba. Inside this Tower, there are 8 levels of exhibits. Some of them, I find rather boring. However there are good ones as well. What is rare is that these exhibits teach people about the Muslim side of Spain in its past. This is rather rare in today's Spain. The Moors indeed had a great civilization which should be understood by many of us in the modern world. One can also climb up to the top of the tower and see beautiful Cordoba from there. A must-visit location, in my opinion. In addition, if possible, you may want to consider buying a copy of the Visual Guide which has a general introduction to the tower and its exhibits. Read it and you will ensure your visit is more going to be more fruitful and enjoyable.
This defensive city gate has been turned into an interesting museum of the Al-Andalus. We have found it worth the visit, although I agree on previous comments about the audio-commentaries. We were visiting with friends in a quiet November evening, so it was OK, but on few occasions I had to wait for commentary started earlier in the room to finish so I could listen to it from the beginning. To be honest, not sure how this can be pleasurable when it's busy with tourists. Nonetheless, we've enjoyed it and the views from the top of the tower over the Roman bridge and the city are memorable.
We did not find this attraction to be a great experience. There was some interesting info on the history of the region that we had not seen elsewhere but that was about the only positive. The audio system is a disaster. The system was not independent on a per user basis. When you entered a room you had to wait until a user who got there before you finished before you could start. The audio also cut out sometimes depending on where you stood in the room. The views from the top are not great as the tower is really not that high. At the end of our tour I had to ask the staff to answer a few questions about the tower itself because, oddly enough, nothing I saw or heard on the tour mentioned anything about the tower itself.
It is a good museum for a quick visit, it tells you a little bit about Spanish culture under the Moors and just in general the history of the time, mainly through audio guide. The audio guides come in English. The views are nice, it is overall a neat museum.
This little museum was a cool respite at the end of a hot bridge. It is quite small, with colorful dioramas evoking daily life as it was hundreds of years ago in the Islamic palaces. We also learned how true Islam promotes peaceful relations between all belief systems. There are a lot of stairs, the rooftop offers a good view over the riverscape. At only 4.50 euro, there is no reason to skip it.
It's worth a wander round to get some historic background and see the views south of the river. The audio guides are old fashioned but even with a couple of school groups in the building we still found it acceptable. For Cordoba it's not excessively cheap but at €4.5 it's not excessive either. I enjoyed it, well worth a look round.
