Almeria has a compact centre with some very interesting sights and good shops. The central market is well worth a visit!
A working town with lovely beach/promenade, interesting history with large Moorish fortress/palace undergoing restoration (free entry for EU residents), relaxed atmosphere, lots of eating places frequented by locals rather than tourists.
Stayed here for three days, nice city but trying to find decent places to eat other than tapas bars is difficult. Tourist information give you a map of the old town, that's it, no leaflets or info on eateries nothing.
Almeria is a brilliant city to visit, very spanish still give a tapas with a drink. The drinks are very reasonable unlike a lot of spanish cities.
We called into Almeria on a cruise and what a beautiful city it is, we have never been to this part of Spain before so it really was a lovely surprise. The city is clean and quite easy to walk around. There are many fountains, I believe they are lit up at night which we didn't see because we had then left the port. We found the people very friendly and helpful and the prices in the shops quite reasonable. The cathedral is wonderful. All in all, a wonderful place to visit and.........we will be back.
Wonderful city fantastic cathedral - which is fortified.Shops amazing and just off the paseo is a wonderful indoor market selling fantastically fresh local produce. The beaches are lovely with a great promenade and of course the Alcazaba is well worth a visit.
Took friends to visit the Alcazaba, tapas bars and squares. Had a lovely time but make sure you wear comfortable shoes because you'll be walking up-hill and on cobbles. A wonderful place to visit.
Lovely city to visit. Las Ramblas by night very beautiful with its lovely lit fountains. Shops good, however the restaurants were late in opening in the evening
Almeria is surrounded by 750,000 acres of plastic greenhouses , which totally ruins the what was once beautiful landscape . As you can imagine it's everywhere you go . You can't escape it .. I have never seen anything like it ...
Found the tourist information centre and asked what they would recommend for the next 2days both attractions and food given 2 maps with the cathedral, fortress and docks circled. The restaurants list was in Spanish so we had no idea of the type of food a phrase book would be useful as menus in Spanish mainly. Loved the fact that Tapas is brought free when drinks purchased in the bars. Shops open morning then have Siesta time reopen in the evening. Good range of shops from designer to H+M on the main shops. Loved watching the people very Spanish family orientated. Favourite to marvel at the range of fresh fruit, veg fliers and meat fish is the central market. If food looked this good in English markets the supermarkets would be worried. The need for walking guides and ideas to find some statues architecture and true Spanish bars is needed. They are missing out on the tourist as they do not publicise what they have. Drove out to mini Hollywood 3different film set locations which if they collaborated could attract customers from all over Spain or the world. Needs to add attractions like quad biking as perfect scenery for this, stunt show filming and a meal or cook out and this would rival any other Spanish attraction. Want them to keep their identity but as the economy needs a boost feel they will loose the youth to Madrid or abroad.
The city is very nice, lots of shops, restaurants and places to visit. The architecture is very interesting and it is really close to the Tunisian one. If you decide to visit it, do it on the week days, because in the weekend nothing is working. Very nice nature, fountains and parks.
As a British no speaking Spanish person ,it was nice to have family with us to show us the local bars,a lot of fine beers, wine and food to choose and very calm and out of the way,if you want night life, head for the big cities, for us a night out for 4 was a Bargin at about 50 euro's so enjoy!!!
Relaxing and friendly but would have liked a little bit more entertainment at night ,still very Spanish and we liked that.
Lovely place and visited all the local sites. However was very hot with little shade and everything was closed early afternoon so make sure you get there nice and early.
While the newer parts of Almeria are unspectacular the old is a real must and well worth the effort to visit. aesthetically and thought provoking. A beautiful walk that takes you from the 17th to the 20th and back again at almost every turn. A must see if you visit the region.
