st. stephen's convent (convento de san esteban)

Well organised and reasonably priced. This is an outstanding place that makes the visitor feel they are walking back in time. History is explained well and the convent has been maintained to a high standard, a process which is ongoing. I strongly recommend a visit here.

This Dominican Convent is a must. It has a spectacular baroque architecture. You need to buy a ticket to visit the church and the museum. The inner courtyard and the church are spectacular. This is a Dominican Convent that backed Columbus's trip to America and pleaded his cause to the Catholic Kings. You can visit the small room in which the monks held council. The courtyard is one of the finest examples of later Gothic highlighted by large mirrors that reverse the perspective. One of the most spectacular examples of Gothic arches. It si a place of peace and meditation. It also has a museum of Indian crafts and quotations of the Dominican relation to the native populations.

Built on the grounds of former monastery (Columbus apparently stayed here).Took a long time to finish so there is a mixture of styles.Beautiful front, tympanum contain martyrdom of St. Stephen, portico italianesque renaissance.Interior definetively worth visit .

Beautiful exterior with wonderful carving and play on light; the courtyard is quite lovely; worth the time to see

Only had the chance to view from the outside, Like everything in Salamanca it was very pretty and added to the great atmosphere.

There is much to see- it is beautifully presented inside.Just a look at the outside portal is worth the detour The admission fee is only 3€

If you visit just one place in Salamanca - visit here. This monastery was overwhelmingly beautiful - I highly recommend you visit...it is breathtakingly beautiful...words cannot describe...

For my money this is the superstar in a star city. The interior is not chopped up by a "choir" as is often the case as it is on an elevated platform at the west end. Maybe because it was monastic rather than being a cathedral. Beautiful cloisters, great staircase and a good museum. Nice to see the Dominican quotations on the walls. We even got to discover what plateresque means!

Like so many historical buildings in this unique old city, San Esteban throws up surprises. Really worth a visit.

As a student it only cost 2 euros and with a free guided tour (although only in Spanish). I'd say it's well worth the 3 euros to enter even just to look around never mind the history of the place, which is well worth it too but only explained in Spanish.

It's a must see. 17-th century convent is simply amazing. Find some time for a visit - study the extraordinary facade and inside we especially recommend taking a look at Soto staircase, main reredos, cloisters and sacristy. The facade is beatifully illuminated at night. And lot of storks occupy the towers and spires. Nowadays entrance fee is 3 euros.

What a beautful building this is. For a few euros, you can walk through this asethetically pleasing place. Just down from this building (and the cathedral) there is ample parking in an underground garage. A short walk up the hill St. Stephen's is on your right. Take time to be inspired both inside and out.

Had the hotel next door for my stay. This is as a stunning place to visit in for what for me was the wonder of Salamanca. The cloisters are beautiful and peaceful: the soto staircase also stands out. I spent a very peaceful morning here with the sun shinning through. The chapel next door which you also access is breathtaking.A memorable visit not to be missed

the admission price - phenomenal for the beauty and history contained within. The exterior facade is breathtaking, in the plasteresque style so common in Salamanca. Once inside you will see beautiful cloisters, the amazing soto staircase and the awe inspiring reredos or altarpiece in gold located in the monastery church created in 1692 by José de Churriguera. It is such a beautiful building and well worth a visit. Highly recommended.

A most impressive monastery located right in the heart of this beautiful university town. The guide is simple to follow. The chapel is more impressive than the new cathedral build at the same time.
