It was a beautiful visit that reminds that it was an unique church that served both for worship and defense of the city.

This is about a man and his sisters who were tortured and killed for their faith. You just need to follow the story.

St Vicente is highly recommended and easily accessed just outside the walls. The site dates from Roman times but the basilica has been added to over the years - mainly gothic. As well as the wonderful interior, the crypt is open and quite fascinating.

I lucked out and had this magnificent church all to myself, when I did a day trip to Avila. It was lovely and serene and was very impressive.

The ancient sarcophagus of the 3 saints has the most superb intricate wood carvings. The amount of time this must have taken is astonishing.

Thought it was really cold inside, I liked the atmosphere of the place. It got stuck in the Dark Ages

Beautiful little (by Spain standards) church just outside the walls dedicated to the 3 child martyrs of the early christian church. It dates back to the Romanesque periods with additions until the baroque. Do not forget the crypt at the bottom!

Worth a visit. We were surprised as our kids (12, 8, 7, 5) were actually interested too. Maybe we caught them on a good day!Visited this using the family tourist ticket available from the tourist office opposite this church. €29 for a family with 4 kids under 12 - well worth the money as we got into all the tourist attractions in Ireland.

Built 'outside' the walls of Avila, this is a fascinating story. There are entombed there both the remains of Christian martyrs and their alleged assassin a Jew who in remorse converted to Christianity. This is an inveterate and prejudiced "Blood Libel", unworthy of the Modern Catholic Church. However, in their mitigation, during mass the priest's sermon paradoxically recognised the land of Israel as their homeland, and the eternal nature of the Judaic covenant!

Is one of the nicest buildings in Avila adjacent to La Puerta de San Vicente which is situated on the crossroads of the Avenida de Portugal and San Segundo just a short walk from Neo Gothic Cathedral which is one of the finest in Europe, that is my opinion!

Much has already been said. The altar and basilica in the church are breathtaking and don't forget to visit the crypt down some narrow steps on the left hand side. Possibly the best attraction in Ávila

Top of the list. The monument in the church is quite stunning. Fabulous colouring and detail, the whole well lit and easily accessible.

If you have the time don't Forget the leave some 30 min to visit this basilica its an intersting one, with an excelent stonework

It is a pretty basilica, but neither the architecture, contents, nor art are particular stand-outs. The literature that came with the tickets was also lacking.

We saw the Basilica first from our walk on the walls, and from that height it is very inspiring. It is orange-ish in color, and has a unique style---others have written about the architecture so I won't. It has a magnificent altar but the high point of the interior is probably the sepulchre of three martyrs. The carvings tell the story of the martyrdom but if you don't look too closely (a big gruesome at one point, some anti-semitism) it is a beautiful work of art.
