Allways nice to go there. Permanent collection but also very often Special Exhibitions. We have National Museum Passes so we pop in and out a lot. The Carthage Exhibition was impressive and as usual very nicely displayed. Friendly staff and good lockers and toilet facilities. Parking can be a bit of a problem because it's in the middle of an ancient city.

Only the architecture, combining at least 2 buildings is already amazing! It is quite a big museum, we took more the 3:30 hours to visit all the rooms, but some we had to rush. We will be back to take more time at different periods. The Egyptian period alone is already impressive! The temporary exhibitions are very well curated. It costs €9.50 per adult plus €2.50 because of the extra exhibitions. With the year museumcard, we've only paid the extra €2.50 (and we don't need to pay the extra again if we come back before May 10th, when the Carthage exhibition ends). They have special routes and activities for children, including a Ice Age exhibition organized mainly for younger visitors.

The museum is beautifully set out in some classic Dutch houses that have been renovated to house an entire Egyptian temple, a huge collection of Egyptian, Greek, Roman and near eastern antiquities, as well as artefacts from Holland's own history from prehistory onwards. Possibly one of the best museums in all of the Netherlands

I had no idea Leiden had such an extensive collection of antiquities! Anyone into Egyptian art especially should be sure to visit this excellent collection of artifacts.

Visited the RMO again after 10 years, for the Carthago exhibition. The exhibition was set up with care and we learned a lot from it. It also shows what a special position this museum has had in the past, allowing it to collect so many beautiful pieces throughout the decades.I also spent a lot of time in the section with archeology from the Dutch soil, which was surprisingly rich and which shows how intensively especially the Romans had been active along the Old Rhine river. Also the many objects fished from Oosterschelde seabed were a great surprise to me!

A very well designed interior and a rich collection of Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan, Phoenician and Roman antiquities. The exhibition is presented in an excellent and informative way. Fun for all ages.

This museum is housed in a beautiful building. Good exhibitions. Also fun for kids. During the dutch schoolholidays they offer a lot extra for kids. Also guided tours or you can borrow a mp3 player and listen to the explanations in a good way. (Also especially for kids) we come here almost every year and still see new things.

A beautiful museum, well organized and with precious and rare collections. Also the special shows are regularly changed bringing always new things and justify more than one visit to the place. The museum building is also very nice and the shows are well integrated withing the museum global atmosphere. Reasonable canteen and services. It might be a little bit difficult for parking (however normally OK on Sundays) and if you can, go there by public transport or by bicycle.

This is a modern well laid out museum, designed to delight form the moment you walk in and see the small, original Egyptian temple (we were given it, and did not steal it). As you work your way dwon from the top floor you pass through layers of Dutch and other civilisations until reachimng the exquisit Egyptian collection of the ground floor. A simple cafeteria allows you to colelct your impressions over a coffee and cake. Lift available

The museum has some Exceptional pieces in its collections from all over the world. It has a temple from Egypt in its entrance. Some of the labels are only in Dutch which is not convenient. Do make time in your Netherlands trip for this Museum, if you like Antiquities.

This museum is well worth a visit. The Egyptian section according to my guidebook ranks 7th in Europe and I would agree it is an excellent collection. My 10 year old was very interested in the artefacts. The rest of the museum is also interesting particularly the section on the Ice age and archeology in the Netherlands. Plenty of lockers in which to leave bags, coats etc. The museum accepts visa cards which seemed quite unusual for Holland.

This wonderful collection. Museum is small enough as to not be overwhelming but nice collection I thought and good introduction for my daughter who had not seen places like Cairo, The Louvre. Recommended.

There is a great collection of ancient objects here, many of which are well displayed and well presented. For those who do not understand Dutch, there are quite a few sections were there is not always an English translation (but in English museums, Dutch translations are very rare, so this is not a complaint, just a point to be aware of). Really great building, excellent customer service and good facilities. One of the most disabled-friendly places were visited in The Netherlands. Free with Museumkaart.

One of my children's favourite - excellent activities for children, and wonderful permanent and temporary exhibits. Great restaurant too.

I am an Egypt fan and this museum has a very nice collection, with some master pieces of the 19th Dynasty: Maya on itself is worth the visit. Don't forget to have a look on the other floors as this is also very much worth a visit!
