Viewed from a cruise along with all the others! Lots of architecture and if you're on a boat hopefully you get the commentary about this. If not - The Emperor’s Canal is the middle one of the three main canals in Amsterdam. It was named after Emperor Maximilian of Austria. It is 31 meters wide, the widest canal in the inner city. Together with the Herengracht and the Prinsengracht, digging this canal was started in 1612. On the photo below you can see the oldest part of the canal, where it joins the Brouwersgracht (Brewer’s Canal) Initially a wide boulevard without water was planned here, but the future inhabitants wanted water in front of their doors, so they could reach their house by boat.
Another of the canals, perhaps not as royal as expected but none the less beautiful arhitecture, lots of historical buildings, with beautiful decorations on Crhistmas Days. Many chic restaurants.
Spent a day cruising the canals. How awesome was this is. Went along emperor canal and learned all about the history and why they had the names they had.
enjoy the section east of the Leidsestraat to see the 17th century's mansions. and bring a visit to the van Loon museum at number 672
We took a canal trip in Amsterdam but it wasnt as exciting as we expected it to be. The canals were very beautiful but after a point, it seemed all the same and we started to chat rather than excitedly look outside the boat
If you like museums and places of interest the best thing to do is to buy an Amsterdam pass which you can get for 1, 2 or 3 days. We bought the two day pass which is activated at your first venue and then lasts 48 hours. You get free admission to a load of attractions and free transport within Amsterdam plus a canal trip of an hour. The canal trip is by far the best way to see the canals and you use all of the major canals in the free trip. Herrengracht is by far the most interesting but that is personal.
I have stayed on Keizersgracht on previous visits and have walked the three canals to Jordaan or to Spui or to Amstel and this is the most diverse and interesting canal, and the most beautiful. One can stop anywhere on Keizersgracht and get a quintessential view of what Amsterdam is all about.
It's just nice to walk along and explore shops and cafes off the side streets. Even in bad weather we enjoyed the stroll.
Another of the main canals with nice streets. Good place for walking and biking to check out the shops and restaurants. Much more peaceful here than the center of town. You will find a lot more local places here rather than all the tourist places in the center.
One of the best things about amsterdam , especially the emperor's canal in Keizersgracht. Just walking along this canal with beautiful backdrop and enjoying the views is amazing. There are also boat tours available to take or just relax by the cafes by the canal to enjoy a beautiful day by the canal.
Like parallel Canal streets like Singel and Herehgracht, Keisersgracht rings the old part of the city and following it can take you to most of the sights of the city. The streets are perfectly preserved rows of 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th century houses where people still live and work. You can often see people in their kitchens in the basement having coffee or breakfast. The perfectly preserved buildings makes it a very interesting walk and you can learn all about Dutch architecture just walking along this street. There are interesting stores restaurants and bars along the way. This strfeet crosses many other key streets and so there are many bridges. Don't miss a relaxing walk along this historic street.
Just loved the strolling, the high buildings, the people, the bars. From the central area, just head out on one of the "spokes" that intersect the five canals, meander at will, have a drink and a snack; head for Leidseplein and have fun.
A little over an hour this boat cruise is spacious and goes all the way around most canals with personal commentary! Highly recommend! I think the tickets were only € 10 in conjunction with the City Sightseeing 24hrs ticket. However it is not a hop off hop on tour.
Beautiful area, gorgeous properties with simple beautiful views wherever you looked.I loved the canal in the evenings when the bridges are lit up and it emphasises the structure of the tiny bridges. This location is excellent for access on foot to the whole of the Dam !! Go and enjoy
