Maybe not the best likeness, but bound to bring a smile and bring back memories of the great man. A nice touch are the names of so many guests on their shows written on the circular stonework in the foreground. Be careful on the steps if you are taking photos.
An excellent bronze tribute to one of the funniest, intellectual and sharp comedians this country has ever produce.I was told this was a life size statue of Eric but I believe at 6' 1" it is a tad too tall as my sources inform me he was slightly under 5' 9". Eric adorns a position at the top of stairs which has the words to "bring me sunshine on them" and I challenge anyone not to sing the song whilst reading the lyrics. At the bottom is a huge circle with all the many guests on the Morecambe and Wise show engrave around the circumference such as; Angela Ripon, Andre Previn and Harold Wilson, Many of whom themselves are no longer with us.After visiting this attraction you could always repair to the 'Eric Bartholomew' across the road which is the local Wetherspoons. Eric Bartholomew being his real name.
We came across this "stage" by walking along the front from our hotel. All along the promenade are metal birds in their hundreds, swirling masses of them, and then you come to The Eric Morecambe memorial. You have to smile even if it's raining. Posing next to the life-sized statue makes you feel like part of Eric's act. This is a very tasteful tribute to one of the greats of British comedy.
Does what it says on the tin! On the sea front, handy for the Palatine Bar. A very bracing location on a windy day, but very close to shelter.
On a cold, wet, miserable day this statue (and the surrounding pieces) brings a ray of sunshine into your life.
Glad to see him back!! Always give Eric a wave when we are in Morecambe. Just a bit of Northern character
I personally think Morecambe is flogging a dead horse with this its nice to see for about 10 seconds then you just move on!
Nice to see this statue honoring Eric. Well deserved. There was a cache here too! Double whammy! Go Morecambe and Wise!
a must.you can't go to morecambe without paying respect to the great man.then walk over the road for a touch of nostalgia at Brucianni's cafe.ice cream float.spoil yourself
How could this not make you smile. Lovely Eric must bring back so many happy memories to millions of people.
It seems strange to review a statue but this slightly larger than life representation makes people smile, he is striking his "bring me sunshine" post that him and Ernie used to sing at the end of their long running "Morecambe and Wise " show. He has his back to the sea and the wind is blowing open his jacket.Eric is just one of the works of art that someone (presumably Morecambe council) has placed along the sea front, there is a small flock of chubby looking seagull dotted along the boulders, also a very large rock with what looks like cormorants perched on it, among others. This makes a walk along the sea front a little more interesting.
Fantastic iconic statue of an extremely talanted and naturally funny man in Morecambe, I pass it every day and almost every day there are people having their photos taken standing next to him, lots of locals but more importantly tourists and visitors to our lovely town, who then enjoy our promenade and stunning views over Morecambe bay to the lake district, need another with his great partner Ernie, always bringing 'sunshine' to Morecambe.
As above. Been a fan of Morecambe and Wise and the other great northern comics since I were a lad. The statue of Morecambe in Morecambe is the best sight in town.
amazing backdrop of morecambe bay stretching out to the panoramic views of the lake district mountains on a clear day take a walk along the prom
Eric is never alone, day or night there is always some one taking a picture of Eric and the Views across the bay to Cumbria. In winter the view of the snow caped hill's are breath taking.
