Spent a wonderful afternoon here. Some very interesting displays. All run by volunteers, who are very welcoming and helpful.
We came here for my Mum's interest in the film Brief Encounter which was filmed at this station. Lots of interesting memorabilia to peruse, steam engines if you time your visit right, a great gift shop, and the restaurant should not be missed. Andrew's gruff serving style belies his warm sense of humour, and his wife's cooking is excellent.Definitely worth coming to Carnforth for.
Only a small museum but very interesting especially if you have an interest in steam railways. Very helpful enthusiastic friendly staff
This place really is worth a visit. Very clean, tidy, and well set out. The staff care, which is very evident in the attention to detail. Different nostalgic exhibits in several rooms. Lovely cafe serving good food and drinks. Check out their web-site of www.carnforthstation.co.uk for full details.
We loved the atmosphere and character and the whole experience, great museum, great cinema, great food in a great cafe with a fantastic aura, definitely worth a visit, some great events throughout the year and very professionally run, a real blast from the past, all the family will love it.
For someone who doesn't have a lot of interest in trains I was pleasantly surprised by this free tourist attraction. There were a number of rooms, with various displays, about the town, the railway and the film, "Brief Encounter" which was playing on a loop. They were well-presented and the content interesting. The gift shop was varied, relevant and better than the usual. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
It was a cold and miserable day but a visit to this brilliant heritage centre made the day so much brighter. I last visited Carnforth Station over twenty years ago, it was a very enjoyable visit then. But the addition of the Heritage Centre several years ago has added to the enjoyment of this station. It is free admission, but donations are gratefully received. There is so much memorabilia to see plus the film shows, the café is just like a time warp and a lovely gift shop. Congratulations to the volunteers, they are doing a great job. Definitely worth a visit
eat in the Brief Encounter bar. see the history of the station and the area. All set up/staffed by volunteer enthusiasts
Interesting little look around not very big so it was done in twenty mins. They were still working on it to improve it for visitors.
A fun afternoon out exploring the history of the station and the tie in with the film Brief Encounter. Finish your visit with a drink in the refreshment room, just like in the movie. Well done the volunteers.
Very atmospheric railway station, the clock where the characters in 'Brief Encounter' was filmed and the refurbished refreshment room where some of the film took place. Coffee & cakes are very nice too. Enjoyed it immensely!
Being entirely honest this is not really my cup of tea, however after visiting Brief Encounter we decided to pay a visit.I have to say it was well presented and actually very interesting. Take a look you may be pleasantly surprised as I was!
Exhibition based on the film Brief Encounter having been filmed here (although in fact much of it was filmed at a studio many miles away). Lots of memorabilia from period in which film was set. However there was a cluttered appearance about it all and I was expecting a bit more. Having said that entry was by donation and the Centre is run by volunteers. With a bit of money and possibly a small entrance charge it could have been considerably improved. Just an opinion - money and volunteers are hard to come by these days!
This was a real blast from the past. The staff were helpful and informative . I will go back and take my grandchildren.
If you have ever watched Brief Encounters you will know the station. The big clock were they met still stands as does the platform cafe, its not quite the same but you can have a cup of tea and imagine .
