Pay in the car park and then walk to the Seven Sisters from there. Ideal viewing platform if tide is in.
Can be accessed by road if you can't walk. Great views and walks in either direction. National Trust shop/cafe
For those who like a short walk there is very little to beat the stroll from Birling Gap up to Belle Toute and back. It's also a great place to just put down a blanket and soak up the sun and the scenery. Just don't go too near the cliff-edge which is very unstable.
Lovely views and an ideal place for walking along the cliffs. When we visited it was a lovely day but the wind was really bitter, but there were still a great many visitors (I think it must be really packed in the summer). It is run by The National trust so as you would expect there is a large car park and clean loos.
Fantastic to see this famous place and ponder on the faith of houses on the sheer cliff face. Wonder how much longer they will be there!
Went on a very windy day. Almost dangerous I think.lovely cafe. Like dogs being segregated. Lovely spot and a charming approach across the downs. Worth a visit and get your parking fee(if not N T member) back if spend is enough inside.
excellent hiking….. and views, not good on windy days to cold and bitter… you can actually see the houses hanging on for dear life
A great way to finish off a South Downs walk or bike ride. Nice little pub and picnic facilities. Visit soon before it falls into the sea!
This is an area of chalk cliff that is gradually being eroded by the sea. The area is under the care of the National Trust. There is staggered staircase down to the beach, so allowing visitors to walk along the waters edge, and wonderful views of the famous Seven Sisters. Back at the top of the staircase is a restaurant serving drinks, cakes, sandwiches and cooked meals. for those that enjoy hiking the premises has accomodation available so allowing a base from which to wander the south downland. Ideal both for day visitors and those wanting to linger for a few days. The buildings also support a local history of the area along with the normal NT shop and, currently, an art display
Fantastic view of the 'Seven Sisters' to the west and sea and cliffs to the east plus the 5 remaining cottages and a very nice cafe and National Trust shop.
This spot is administered by the National Trust. Depending on the tide and weather conditions, walkers can walk along the beach with the amazing chalk Seven Sisters towering above. The coast is continually eroding and in the NT Visitor Centre there are exhibits detailing the timeline of recent erosion. Well worth a visit.
Birling Gap is a small beach at the bottom of chalk cliffs that form part of the South Downs. It affords wonderful views of the Seven Sisters, cliffs that run form here to Cuckmere Haven. This is very nice to walk along anytime of year, and not too demanding. The beach is made of shingle but still offers a good swimming location. Best of all, its great for barbecues that are sheltered by the cliffs behind. Very popular in summer for cooking on the beach. The only disadvantage is high parking fees; this can be avoided by either parking along the nearby access road or leaving your car in the free car park at East Dean. There you will find a great, authentic Sussex pub alongside a vilage green. Nice walks from her to the sea.
This is always a place that is well worth a visit. As a writer I often visit here for inspiration and to look at the sea either at it's most violent or when it is calm. There is the National Trust cafe which is good for snacks and seems to be ok.It is a bit over priced in my opinion for what it is.I am sure if it was better priced you would have a higher foot fall just for the cafe? There is of course a captive audience with walkers and hikers and people who do not know the area. The atmosphere in the Cafe is nice and has nice sea views in parts. There is outside seating which is nice in the summer months. There is always room for improvement and it could be improved here to make it even more visitor friendly than it already is.
A place of natural beauty. The beach at low tide is amazing. Geology everywhere. It is possible to walk east for a half hour and see Beachy Head lighthouse. Make sure the tide is not coming in if you do this.
I had family over from Australia and we went for a run up to Beachy Head and Burling Gap.So windy we could hardly stand up at Beachy Head so went to Burling Gap.My family were very impressed with the beautiful scenery there even though it was only January it was sunny with blue skies. We stood and took photos and was laughing at the cold wind which the family just aren't used to this sort of weather. But were fascinated by the cliff fall and the cottages having fallen over. There is a pub there for refreshments and plenty of parking space. So worth a visit for the sheer beauty of the beautiful vista.
