God bless Charnwood BC for funding this place. Hour of free entertainment for the plus lovely cafe, Aviary is amazing.
Went with my primary school age boys - they liked the fossils especially the barrow kipper ( plesiosaur ) and very keen on the stuffed animals too. The microscope worked really well and we spent ages looking at the hair on dead flies and lichens etc.We were Impressed by the amount of artefacts that had been found locally on display - Roman pots , Bronze Age jewellery. Friendly, kid tolerant staff, nice cafe, nice park and aviarys full of exotic ish birds outside. It's fun and free.
Nice small museum in the centre of Loughborough. Plenty to interest little ones.I especially enjoyed the room dedicated to Ladybird books fondly remembered from my childhood.Worth a visit when you spend some time in the park, not forgetting the carillon too.
Very compact, interesting museum. Plenty to keep my five year old occupied for a good hour. The current focus of display is remembering when the museum was the Municipal Baths.
We spent an hour or so looking around this lovely museum.....lots of history here and it's situated in a beautiful park very close to the centre of Loughborough......well worth a visit
i spoke to Charnwood museum and the lady I spoke to gave excellent help for some WW1 research on people who had been killed at the Battle of the Somme.
Love this museum. Really nice old building, a former swimming pool in a lovely park. excellent displays with lots of activities for primary age kids and fascinating displays of local interests. A good cafe is attached and this is a must see in Loughborough. Nice selection of pocket money items to buy too. Great for a wet day, check opening times before you go. No fee to get in, so give what you can. It's worth it!
A compact visitor friendly museum, with great displays, don't forget to look up to see the little plane flying over your head & check out the fossil collection too!
We had a fabulous time exploring the museum with our 4 year old. So much to see and do and the trails and staff are very helpful. Fantastic free day out with ideal location in the park close to the aviaries.
Situated on the edge of Queens Park the building may be small but it punches well above its weight in terms of I interest. Free admission gives you access to local history/geology at its best. Good for both adults and children and combined with a walk round the park it's a great way to spend a couple of hours.
This is a small compact venue easily accessed with a splendid narrative and well documented displays. One of the best local museums I've visited. Well done all involved. Children will love it and it is set in a lovely town park which also has a War Museum in the nearby Carillon
No entry fee but donations accepted. really intesting and learned lots. Also a great value little cafe attached.
Don't miss this small, intimate museum, lots of local interest, with a cafe attached providing smashing grub at realistic prices.Loved the display on Elgar, coming from Worcester as I do, loads of information & original documents on his life & connections with Loughborough.
I love the static displays, but I love the changing displays even more! I regularly pop in just to see what's changed. friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Situated in the prettiest park for miles (and with the Carillon there too) this is a must to see. We have been twice. Once in its original state which was great and again when it was revamped. Now there are even more things to do, especially for the children, extremely interesting and some facts of our local area, surprising. Well worth a visit.
