I couldn't believe just how great this place was. We were fortunate to be there when the Top Gear exhibition was on but even if that wasn't there it would be a great day out - make sure you put aside a whole day. We only had about 4 hours and it wasn't enough. There's something for everyone - cars, the Abbey, the Lords residence, history, gardens, a beautiful place for a picnic and a stroll.
Overall a good day out. They have a fantastic array of cars and historical collections on offer that you can easily get lost in the nostalgia of it all. At the moment they have a Top Gear exhibition on which is great - I could not believe all of the cars that were there from the actual show! The price, expensive however it is a day out and during the Summer I can imagine that there is a lot of more things to do in terms of outdoor events for children. The best time of year to visit is during the winter as it is a lot quieter and most of the special events they have on are a more intimate experience.
Well worth the money. Go see the whole museum, got to the Top Grar expo, see the old cars used in films, do the mono rail, the open deck bus ride, all in all a great place.Didn't do the house or garden, but the other attractions listed was enough for one day!
It helps, if like me, you LOVE your motorcars. But there is so much more to the National Motor Museum that even if you have been dragged along for the ride, you could enjoy your day out. The setting and grounds are attractive. There are walks, and many other things to do and see, apart from the cars , including a visit to the house. Also the monorail is a MUST as it gives you a birds eye view that you will not want to miss. Catering is acceptable, but like most 'event type' places, they could try harder to give the whole family a memorable meal, without breaking the bank. But in the end you have come for all those amazing CARS, not for a culinary experience. Even better when the sun is shining. But isn't everything in England like that ?
If you like or have any interest in motoring or just like old things this museum will not disappoint you. the collection is extensive and even the more modern vehicles bring back memories of how cars used to look.A good day out - a must visit if in the area
well presented and some fabulous historic displays. Not bad value too. Didn't get time to visit the palace etc, but enjoyed the Top Gear tent ..
The National Motor Museum has changed dramatically over the last several years, with the addition of several major new displays, such as our newly-opened motorsport exhibition, A Chequered History. Our Monorail has been a firm favourite with visitors for over forty years and is meticulously maintained.

We had a fabulous day at Beaulieu on 3/3/15. We last visited 3 years ago, but were unable to explore much of the site at that time as my husband was awaiting back surgery & couldn't walk far so we vowed to return. This time the weather was beautiful, but what really made our visit was the friendly, helpful staff - especially Andrew who recommended the pod ride & invited us over the ropes in the motor racing section for an up-close viewing & the gentleman in the Top Gear dome who gave us a private showing & even provided seats!! Well done Beaulieu - thanks for a great day - we'll definitely be back :)
Thoroughly enjoyed all the places to visit on the estate and staff were very friendly and helpful. Fond memories of some of the classic cars and especially liked the Top Gear exhibits and presentations. Received a very thorough history of the family and estate from the Estate house guide.

I have investigated the difficulty which you experienced on the day of your visit. The lift in question in the National Motor Museum was a small one which is an alternative to the three steps from the mezzanine floor to the Motorcycle Gallery. I believe that an attendant who was in the vicinity at the time offered to help you around this difficulty. All work undertaken around the site at any time is very strictly supervised, with all health and safety requirements fully adhered to. All visitors are given a map of the attraction upon their arrival, which clearly highlights the best points of access for visitors with pushchairs.
The grounds, abbey and the big house were lovely and a surprise bonus to the main reason for my visit, the motor museum. Even then, the Top Gear exhibition was very good also. The museum is charming - not enormous but well laid out and plenty to see. For those wanting to spend some time looking over the cars, it might be a bit cramped on busy days and there will be school tours in term-time. Recommended for petrolheads and parents.
