Used Open Road Hire a while back, probably the best experience Ive had on holiday, the car was fantastic and Boyd (the owner) couldnt have been easier to deal with as well, a really great bloke. Highly recommend giving it a go.
My girlfriend hired the blue six speed Roadsport SV for me as a birthday present and we had an excellent day exploring around Aviemore and Loch Ness. Boyd couldn't have been more friendly and helpful which certainly aided with reducing nervousness! The car was well prepared and drove without fault leaving us free to make the most of the brilliant roads in the area! Thank you for a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys driving!
I have never left a review before but this experience really should not be missed if you love driving.Having hired a Caterham last year I just had to do it again, and had the opportunity last week. This time adding an extra day . Boyd once again was fantastic to deal with and his enthusiasm for Caterhams is obvious. No matter which road you take you will have the time of your life so just get in the car and drive. The biggest problem with hiring a Caterham is having to give Boyd the keys back, it really is the ultimate driving experience and you don't want it to end. I am already looking forward to next year and maybe spoil myself and try the fabulous CSR. Thanks Boyd, you are a true gent.
Boyd and his lovely wife made us comfortable with the exciting CAR rental from the idea's conception to it's reality. Who knew there could l d be an experience so wonderful! My husband and I each rented a car for the day; Boyd even gave us our colour choice! He reassured us being from the USA that we'd be well prepared, right side and shifting NO PROBLEM! Our seven year old granddaughter joined us for adventure and loved every moment. Thank you so much for the very best day ever Boyd.
My wife arranged the hire of a Caterham 7 for the day as a birthday treat, and what a treat. We had a fantastic time blasting around the highlands. I couldn't stop smiling and any stops we had were very brief!!! The weather was great, the car was fantastic and dealing with Boyd was a pleasure. Would not hesitate to recommend and will definitely be back for more :-)
A friend and I hired the Roadsport for a day, one Sunday in September. It was an absolutely fabulous experience. We headed out toward Granton on Spey then onward to Fort William via Spean Bridge. Stopped off at the Dores Inn along the the south bank of Loch Ness before returning along the back road to Elgin.Despite the weather being distinctly average (with even some very light rain), it really is endless fun driving these things. So impressed am I that I intend buying one. Best fun I have ever had in a car.....Boyd, the owner, is a very knowledgeable and helpful man. Couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. He supplies you with maps of the best "Caterham routes" along with driving top tips (because driving one of these really is like driving nothing else).Thoroughly recommended. Fabulous way to see a beautiful part of Scotland.
This is the second time this year we've enjoyed a fantastic day on Scotland's empty roads in the yellow SV. Boyd was an impeccable host, as ever. We'll be back again.
Having bought the voucher for my Dad's 60th Birthday in January we decided to wait until the weather was better to book the driving experience. Due to typical Scottish weather we ended up not booking until September but were thrilled as it ended up being a perfect day for driving! The owner Boyd was a delight to deal with from the start to the end and we would have no hesitation in popping in to see Boyd when we are in the area next.Boyd helped us pick out a route and sent us on our way in the yellow Caterham, after a lovely morning drinking coffee in his beautiful garden. Almost forgot why were were there! We had the car from around 11am to 5pm and cannot express how much fun we had. It was a Sunday that we had the car so it was perfect for a Sunday jount. We did not stop smiling the entire time! Both dad and I cannot wait to book our next driving experience with Boyd and would recommend that everyone must experience this!
The experience started from receiving a gift voucher from my wife... and what a voucher! From the extremely warm welcome from Boyd and the discussion over coffee about safety and some routes to take made a great start to the day. Although you just want to get out and thrash the accelerator to the board and hit the road, don't rush this first hour, it not just important but is conducted in a professional but jovial way.We took the Ballater, Braemar (picnic time) and Glenshee roads through the Cairngorms and back via the Lecht, approx 180 miles and was brilliant without a cloud in the sky. Meeting up with a group of Ferrari, Porch and suped up BWM owners taking the twists, turns and straights also added to the road trip. However there was one big down side to the day which I do have to tell everyone. And that is having to take the Caterham7 back, get back in your own car and ask your self !"where as all the power gone?" ;-)DO NOT hesitate to buy this jolly! Just look at the reviews! (Albeit one individual who I think was just pi55ed they couldn't take up the wonderful experience!! Oh well... we did! Thanks Boyd!
2014 was slipping through my fingers and I still hasn't used my Caterham Xmas voucher so I finally got it booked in September. (Huge thank you to my wife and Mum!). Boyd provided a great familiarisation brief and explained everything about driving the car and about the weather protection. The car was awesome - a complete revelation. I've always loved Caterham 7s and it was fantastic to finally drive one. The car was in superb condition and never skipped a beat. We spent 220 amazing miles in the local area and had a great drive out to Grantown-on-spey, Tomintoul and back through Dufftown. Beautiful scenery, incredible car and great customer service.
My 11 yr old son and I hired the 140bhp SV for the day, at the end of September. We checked the weather forecast and it was spot on; warm, dry and sunny.Boyd looked after us well ensuring we had all the information and tips we needed to enjoy the day.We went across to Strathdon, past Alford (visiting Tranport Museum), taking in the roads that Boyd recommended. Superb fun, great route, stunning scenery and the opportunity to enjoy the car.The Caterham was superb; brilliant handling, all the power you could want and pleasantly surprised how comfortable it was. The only thing sore was our faces from the huge grins...If you enjoy driving there's nothing better.
The days hire of a Caterham was a Xmas gift from the wife. Worried about having to wait until September to take up the challenge, but someone was looking after me, what a fantastic day. The weather was unbelievable for the time of year, the car was everything I hoped for and more, (don't leave the lights on). Boyd fantastic bloke, helpful and accommodating, (say hi to missy). Great experience would recommend it to anyone. So thanks Boyd and thanks Lesley for the best Christmas present ever.
Boyd himself is a friendly, helpful host who can't do enough to make sure your day is as enjoyable as possible, and this starts from the moment you contact him after looking at the well laid-out website. On the day he took us swiftly through the necessary documents over a coffee in an idyllic setting, and then gave us a tour of the car. Even if I knew nothing about sports cars, he gives a clear and easy-to-follow guided tour, with plenty time for questions and chats. We planned our route roughly in the days leading up to the hire and it worked out perfectly. The car is very easy to drive at normal speeds, but it's not just the driving that makes the day worthwhile. It's the whole experience, the history of the Caterham, the open-top and the open road. The Moray coast lends itself perfectly to this. You can fit a lot more luggage into the car than you would initially expect, and as we found out - the roof is easy to assemble in a hurry if the heavens open! I would easily recommend this to anyone with any interest in cars and driving. It's something to be shared too, and I'm assured is also comfortable from the passenger's seat.Just need to save up and get one of these to try out on a track now...!
My self and a friend rented the sv (140hp) and crs (200hp) and blasted over to fort william for the day. Would highly recommend the sv, the crs was a bit much for the road. Seriously good fun. The owner who runs the car is a nice chap.
Got a gift voucher last xmas from wife and kids as have always liked the caterham 7 and i was not dissapointed, its truly a real sportscar in its purest form and a joy to drive, Had a great day as the sun stayed out the whole time. Even with the 4 point harness the caterham still managed to accomodate a child seat so my 3 kids could also enjoy the experience. Boyd is very friendly and goes through all you need to know very thouroughly. I can highly recomend it to anyone who loves cars. The only problem was i had to hand it back to Boyd again at the end of the day, but xmas is just round the corner again so will hopefully be back next year boyd many thanks ,, Zander
