I've been a few times to the Kilwinning Abbey with family, found it very interesting and there was lots of history behind it. Also if you like taking photos like me it's a dream haha! :-)
Lots of interesting historical information and artefacts are on display at ground level. If you are really fit then climb the stairs to the top to see the fantastic panoramic view. You will have fun identifying places of interest.
Well worth a visit with a lot of History and no idea this was here. Enjoyed looking around but didn't go into heritage centre.
I really enjoyed my free tour of the Tower and Abbey ruins. The place is run by very smiley and knowledgeable volunteers. The tour includes the clock and bell floors plus the roof. Amazing view for those who don't mind the 143 steps up the narrow staircase. Don't forget to sign the visitors book and to give them a wee donation so the Tower can be renovated and remain opened to the public for many years to come
Great Local History Buffs guide you to the top. Lots of info about robert Service also who is form this area
Excellant found out a lot of the History around the area where I grew up, knew a lot already but still very interesting
Great view from the top showing of Kilwinning at its best. The volunteer's have great knowledge which really brings the history alive and ensured all ages felt engaged.
Go on a clear day as the view from the top of the tower is fantastic. Run by volunteers who are extremely knowledgeable.
If you're into history then you might find it interesting. Good view from the top and a nice quiet place to wander around in if the mood takes you.
We visited on the last day of the season. What a treat. Beautiful weather, great views from the top and a knowledgeable guide volunteer made for a lovely afternoon with our preschoolers. Our 3 year old loved the giant bell! Highly recommend.
The Abbey Tower is a little hidden treasure right off the Main Street.A piece of history, it's a serene place to wander about, or sit and gather your thoughts. If you visit the Kilwinning library nearby, you can find even more information about the Abbey.
I lived within 5 minutes of this for 24 years and visited on Saturday for the first time. I'm ashamed to say I didn't think it would be up to much. Well, I was wrong! There was plenty to read/see on each floor of the museum and tower. We were guided up the stairs by a very knowledgable volunteer, who managed to keep our preschoolers engaged the whole time. And the views at the top were simply breathtaking. Won't be waiting another 24 years to go back!
Kids loved their trip to the abbey tower, great views from the top. Kids also get a certificate for climbing all 143 steps
For a small Ayrshire town it is steeped in history. The Abbey has been preserved and has a lot of to offer for a short visit two steps from the main street, you have the amenities of the town also.
Nestled in the heart of Kilwinning town this historic tower and abbey are not to be missed. The views from the top of the 143(?) steps up the tower is great on a good day. Well done to the volunteers who keep this in operation.
