We where traveling from Cluj napoca to the salt mine, and the trip up where about one hour drive. And it was really worth it! The mine is so nice. We walked for 700 meters in, and then down. And we managed to get our baby stroller with us down, without problems. I also tried the stairs, if you like to workout, this is a nice one!

Turda Salt Mine is located in Turda, second largest city in Cluj county. The Salt mine was ranked by Business Insider as the most beautiful underground place in the world, among the most spectacular tourist destinations.Turda Salt Mine is a halotherapy center and a popular tourist attraction. The main attractions are:Iosif mine,Crivac room,Terezia mine,Rudolf mine and Gizela mine.Turda salt mine was renovated and it reopened its doors in 2010.I can say that me and my husband were amazed when entered in the mine.We used only the stairs for up and down and it was a good choice for us.For recreation you can use the swimming pool(there are sunbathing spaces, sand, wooden pontoons, showers and a bar terrace),SPA & Welness center, minigolf, bowling, boating, pool table, table tennis and the big wheel with a height of 20 m, 6 gondolas, each eight seats, a full rotation takes approx. 8 minutes / shift,5 lei/person).There is a children area too with slides and turntable baskets. So,I do recommend to visit this mine because it is something very special and healthy.

The Turda Salt Mine has been renovated however there is little information on the history of the mine which dates back to the Roman period in the region. It's slightly kitch and more like visiting a fun fair !!!

Situated at at about 40 km from Cluj, easy to reach by car or by bus/train + taxi, this attraction was renovated and modernized with european funds. You can go down or up using the old stairs or the new elevator. On the ground level there is a lake and you can take a short boat ride. Good for treatment as well (respiratory diseases).

Took the bus (Alis) from the corner of the main square in Cluj and arrived about 35 mins later. This service runs every 15-30 mins, everyday. Driver dropped us off about 600m away from the back entrance but directions towards the entrance can be found.Absolutely spectacular inside, felt calm with the help of the music they were playing. There were a couple of different sections but the main hall boasted a couple of ping pong and snooker tables, a two lane bowling alley, mini golf strips, a playground, a ferris wheel and an amphitheatre. Essentially a mini theme park. There is also an underground lake where you can rent a boat to paddle around the island in the next hall.Spent about 3 and a half hours in there, but I took my time. Children friendly, highly recommended!Ps: cafe food choices are limited to none. Eat before entering.

Recently renovated, a gigantic salt mine with beautiful view. If you are in the near don`t miss it! But keep out on the opening times, because you can enter just with one hour before closing.

It's a great salt mine, huge inside and with lots of activities and possibilities to spend your time while inhaling the salty air. Totally recommended for anyone being in Cluj for more than 1 day.

What i like about this change that was done some time ago to the salt mine was that they now offer a lot of activities for the time spent there - for grownups, but also for the kids. There is also a theater there, but never assisted an event....would like to sometime....A minus is that , even if the elevator was renovated, it is still too little for the whole crowd and there is always a queue on both ways during the weekends/vacation time. But as someone said..if you are not with a kid in a trolley...the stairs are the best option. Also another minus, the bathrooms (although renovated) still stink.

Tip - don't use the elevator, use the stairs. It may seem hard to climb but it does wonders to your lungs :)Really good for children with lot of activities (bowling, pool, table tennis)It s sad that they have only a couple of boats and long waiting queues are formed, we did not have the patience to wait.

This is an ancient salt mine that is still being used for its original purpose but that has also been arranged to be suitable for tourist visits. And indeed it was a very pleasant visit. The mine is very well lit throughout, and doesn't make one feel claustrophobic, unlike most mines of this sort. Compared to the Altausee salt mine in the Austrian region Salzkammergut, where you had to walk about 2 km through a very narrow and dimly-lit corridor before reaching a more open space (the size of a big living room), here at Turda the entrance corridor is less than 1 km long, is well lit and is actually a pleasant stroll. Once inside, there is a fantastic Echo Chamber, a very spacious main hall with a ferris-wheel and family entertainment area, and, at a lower level, a very atmoshperic underground lake, which we explored using a reasonably-priced rowing boat. All in all, a great reason for which to visit Turda. The small town of Turda is itself definitely worth visiting, for its lovely typically Transylvanian centre and beautiful, well-maintained monuments and churches.

If you are in the Cluj area, then this place is worth a visit. 20 RON gets you entrance into what is effectively a mini fun park deep underground. As such it will be of less interest to people who are expecting a museum or any historic information regarding the site (perhaps this is in a guide book, but certainly not on display).Inside the mine is very well preserved and is a spectacular site, the contrast of colours between the natural colours of the salt and the artificial lighting works well.Visitors should be aware that other activities within the mine are paid for separately - none of these are expensive, but worth bearing in mind.If you are coming by public transport, bus 17 will take you to the main entrance, though other options are available for the secondary entrance, including walking from the bus station: http://goo.gl/oL85ef.

Hi all, perhaps I was unlucky on the day but had the joy of dealing with the staff in a very upsetting manner.I visited together with my wife, son and nephew and asked before entrance if we can use the elevator to descend in the mine. We were told yes as long as we fold the pram.Long story short we walked for half an hour to the elevator only to see this was out of order. I returned with my family at the entrance and asked why was I not told about the elevator when I specifically asked about it. I also asked for half my money back since I only saw half or less of the whole thing. Basically I was told to get lost.I cannot recommend this place, it has ruined my day and made me feel robbed. Go at your own risk.

We traveled to the mines from Cluj and it took about 90 minutes to get there. You cross the city of Turda and huge signs with arrows will direct you to the magnificent entrance. We arrived early at about 11 am and the place at this time of the year was almost deserted. We were quite alone in the huge mine.A young guide explained us at the entrance what we are to see and we received a small map.Nothing to worry, you cannot get lost. The temperature inside is a constant 10-12 degrees Celsius.I suggest to ware warm clothes and a hat.No gloves are needed. One long gallery connects the two distant entrances and between them you have exits to different access zones like the Mine Joseph,Joseph balcony,Mine Rudolph and many more.A health resort is to be found inside the mine but treatment is allowed only by doctor's recommendation. An elevator takes you down about 80 meters deep into the mountain of salt. There is plenty time for entertaiment too: the trip with the boat on a very salty lake or mini bowling or mini golf (extra payment but very cheap). It is forbidden to bring food or drinks.A souvenir shop will cater for your needs for gifts but you should check before you enter the mine also the shops outside the mine. There are plenty of them in the parking lot.By the way, the parking is not free but the fee both for private cars and buses is very cheap. Bathroom facilities only outside the mine,at the entrance complex. The mine is open every day all year around, for shorter hours during the winter.Mostly recommended also because it is considered one of the main attractions in Europe of this kind.

A park inside the salt mine is quite impressive. Going to Turda using public transportation. Alis Grup costs 7 Lei or approximately USD 2.00 oneway. However, there is not an obvious signage for the salt mine but you can ask locals for direction and they are very helpful. Also tell the bus driver that you are going to Salina Turda s he can drop you off close by the location.
