Very good historical museum, everywhere english subtitles. Nice people in the cashier and in the restaurant as well. Very good and delicious food.

Came specifically for the Viking section and was not disappointed. Spent quite some time around here and the gift shop has some less tacky presents than you would find in many museums. The gold room was also interesting.

One of the best museums I have been to. It is open on Wednesday nights, yeah!! (Well, I think it was a Wednesday, I am sure it was.)In winter, you know when you spend the whole day walking and you get back to you hotel really early because it is pitch black at 4pm, you basically stand there thinking what can I do. Well, this is it. This museum is open late on Wednesdays and it is perfect way of spending a cold winter's night. The displays are brilliant. One of the best viking displays I have seen. Hence, if you are visiting Stockholm and you want to see Viking displays, well this is it. Lot of viking artefacts to see. Now I picked 2-3 hours to visit, but we are very quick museum goers, so if you are one that reads everything then this will take you longer.

We wanted to see Vikings but because it was February we were unable to get to the Birka so we looked for the next best thing, and this was it. Very good exhibits that also question how human life and evolution is represented and how we will be represented in the future. I loved the information on the archaeological digs from Birka and how domestic animals were as important then as they are now. The post war history is also very interesting and do not miss the gold room. This was my favorite museum by far and free on Wednesday evenings.

The exhibition on vikings is very interesting and well balanced between archaeological finds, media and models. If you visit with children the viking exhibition and gold room are must. The second floor exhibition on Swedish history is more old school - not very interactive, mostly relics behind glass and it just too long for one time visit for children. Also note that if you visit on Friday the admission is free.

The museum is amazing! All views are very well mounted and interactive. You can download the audioguide and they provide the headphones. Shows the history of Sweden, from prehistory to the present day, but the highlight is the large exibition of the Vikings.

Less interesting than Nordiska Museet but worth visiting. An exhibition on Vikings or Masacre were interesting.

I really loved this museum! If you're interested in history--especially prehistory and the Vikings--this is a great place to spend a few hours. I wish I'd allowed a full two hours. There are lots of fascinating artifacts, and plenty of explanations in English. Nice little cafe too!

If you are a museum person, you would definitely enjoy the exhibits here. Extremely well detailed, 1 entire day would just not suffice. The path recommended by the staff is to start at the Ice age section and just follow the exit and entries to the next chamber. The journey of Sweden of today has been very well put up right from Ice age and takes up the lower level of the museum. Level 1 is more in tune with the recent past, 17th century onwards. The golden room had an interesting collection of articles too. The viking section was the best for me - the runes, the viking ships, the stories viking children were told, their myths etc etc. I'm going back to catch up on what I missed last time. Fridays are free admission to the museum. An audio guide for 25SEK can be rented or if you have a smart phone, just follow their instructions to get the guides online for free. The entire museum is wifi enabled. A well stocked cafeteria is present near the ticket counter and can be quite a walk back if you are in the middle section or level 1. Would suggest to carry your money with you instead of leaving it in the locker as you would have to walk back to the locker rooms if you want to buy food. I had taken packed food which i ate there but also bought some cakes and coffee lest I'm thrown out...kidding.. all the walking demanded extra food. The museum also has a garden-activity area where I found some tepees and viking costumes for children

Unfortunately we started the visit quite late and 1h wasn't enough. No special rates for late visits (so it was a bit expensive). The museum has interesting contents, but it is quite children-focused and guided (you have to follow a route).Missed information panels in English!

Definitely a museum you should visit if you want to get the whole swedish history. The exhibition goes from medieval times until our days. Visit that on friday when the entrance is free ( otherwise you have to pay 100kr at least..)

This is where you should head if you want to learn a bit about Swedish history and about Vikings. The exhibits are vast and nice and definitely requires an extensive time at your hand to enjoy the museum. My favorite is definitely the gold room.

We visited this museum when it was about to close. Since were in a hurry we could only visit the viking part and the Gold room. There are exhibitions about life of vikings, their weapons and viking ships. The gold room has exhibition of ornaments from viking to modern era. You could see silver and gold objects, artifacts and ornaments here. There are additional exhibitions about Swedish history, art from medieval times and section for children. You could arrive here with bus-44 from Vasa Museum.

The Swedish History Museum has a wonderful exhibition on the Vikings, which was the reason for us to go there. Entrance price was a 100kr per person (or free if you have the Stockholm card) and we spent about 45minutes exploring the viking section. Due to time constraints we did not check the other sections but judging from the quality of the presentation it would have been worth to visit if you are interested kmin history of Sweden.
