Very interesting mural depicting naughty lives (on the left) and righteous lives (right) of the Sami people. Very sweet little church in the snow.

The church is a short walk from the Ice hotel and well worth a visit, it is quite christmas card like in the snow

It was lovely to pop in for a few minutes to visit this old church, which has colourful paintings on the wall.

Beautiful wooden church. Spire and church are separate buildings. Incredible painted altarpiece tells the story of the Church in Sweden

Small and nice woodden church in the town center, beautiful to visit in it's nordic environment, and free of charge

What a beautiful place. The wood work is incredible. Was snowed under but what was visible looked impressive and made beautiful photos. Definitely worthwhile visiting.

We started our tour at the icehotelAnd drove on frozen river . We explored some forests watching some reindeer tours . The sleds go up to 70 . Quite a thrill

The Jukkasjarvi kyrka is a church dating back to the 1600s but is so well preserved. I especially like the very unique plaque that serves as the centerpiece at the church. The area surrounding the church also has a reindeer farm. The place looks amazingly serene laden with all that snow in winter.

The church itself is quite old if I remember, typical simple wooden church, but has a nice friendly atmosphere. In contrast are the painted panels behind the altar, very bright and with an interesting history and story although I'm not a fan of the moralising in either. Very pretty organ on the balcony too.

The wooden pictures inside are beautiful & so colourful. You can purchase a postcard that explains each panel.

We walked to the other end of Jukkasjarvi from the Icehotel to see this church and the Sami cultural centre. The church made it worth the walk. It's peaceful, inviting, and just plain lovely. It gives you a real taste of old Scandinavia.

after a 25 minute walk in temperatures 30 degrees below freezing I was disappointed with this little attraction in Jukkasjarvi. I'm sorry to say I thought it was something of nothing.

The church in itself isn't so rich in furniture or decorations but it worth a visit either you are Christian pilgrim or a lay tourist. In the first case you can claim to have visited the oldest Saami church in the area (but I'm not sure that true Saami can be proud to have been Christianized, this is an oldest anthropological dilemma related to indigenous people converted to other religions) anyhow, this is an ancient Saami sacred place and without any doubts the site has a positive energy.Historically speaking is well-known that old religious monument whenever possible always took over ancient sacred heathen places, not only to continue the influence over the people but also cause primitive people had a marked sensor to spot such an energetic place. They had a deep bond with nature and its healing powers....I suggest you visit this place with a clean heart and receive healing energy to bring with you in the daily life... I and my colleague visited this place last July during the shooting of a short film along the Midnight Sun Road, a route that from Piteå (Sweden coast) reach Nordkapp in Norway crossing several villages, all lit by the midnight sun...We had short guided visit of the church that you can watch in the video published on youtube and among the photo and video resources here in tripadvisor. In its simplicity the church has a lot to tell to any visitor. Don't miss it!

Lovely church, very old and well kept. Definately worth a visit. I would at the same time visit the Same camp which is next door to the church.

Jukkasjavi reminds us that it was the original settlement, and that whereas its church is 400 years old nothing in Kiruna is much more than 100.The church does not look this old, and indeed has been supplied by a more modern fresco - which must be a big distraction during services. And perhaps it was more to the glory of a local preacher (who was proud of having the légion d'honneur from France) than of God!
