It worth a short stay if you are going to some place like St. Malo or Mt St Michel. Not like other places which is full of people and noise, this Chateau is a good place for short walk and relax.
This is a really neat castle where you can climb the towers and walk the parapets. There is not much on the inside to see, the two large buildings only allowed you to enter one floor and the displays were rather sparse. It is an old castle and worth seeing if you are into old medieval castles. If you enjoy climbing towers, then make a stop here. The headsets that were provided were worthless as the first two did not work. When the third set did work, it was a long drawn out explanation of whatever it was you were looking at. I quickly gave up the headset to explore on my own. You need about 45 minutes to an hour here. Parking was nearby and was free. There are food options outside the main gate of the castle.
We found this place by accident while driving from Mont Saint Michel to Tours. If you like castle ruins, this is an excellent place to poke around it. It's HUGE, and that whole section of town is covered with ruins, old walls, old buildings. As you can see from photos of the place, from several angles it still looks like a medieval village. Lots of old structures you can crawl around and through as well. Keep an eye on little kids and old folks, though. Lots of places to slip and fall too.
absolutely a jewel , not to be missed and well worth the detour, only about 30 minutes from mont St Michel
We travelled from St Malo to visit and it was worth the drive, the castle is virtually complete so you can get a glimpse of what medieval life was like. The only downside is the annoying American accent on the "ENGLISH" audio
It's all been said by previous reviewers: Chateau de Fougeres is absolutely stunning, virtually complete and not even expensive to visit. If you take one of the audio guides (free) in the language of your choice you will learn about the history and features displayed before you. In addition, interactive features and videos are also provided (also free). A fascinating and unique treat awaits you!
Possibly, clearly there are a lot of contenders but the Chateau de Fougeres has to be on the top 10 list of castles of the world. It was certainly a large fortress in a commanding position and there is enough left for a full circumnavigation around the walls and trips up and down numerous towers, all with great views of the old and new towns of Fougeres. Well worth a visit
If you like Castles you will love this, one of the oldest in Europe also worth walking around and seeing the church.
Very interesting visit to the château with lots of interesting architecture and views to be enjoyed. Audio guide was very good and synced up in English to give you all the history about the château and the region.
This château has to be seen to be believed. It is absolutely stunning and well worth a visit. It's not far from Mont St Michel which is another amazing attraction on the coast. This really brings history to life and gives it a new dimension if you study the subject.
Unlike most tourist attractions Chateau Fougeres includes a free audio tour. It is very old atmospheric and the children loved exploring. I liked the visual presentation in the tower which went someway to making me understand why the French aren't to keen on the English.
A well preserved castle with a really well designed childrens guided audio tour, with lots to do and see. Highly recommend it.
This is a top attraction with an informative, easy to use, audio guide. There’s a free car park nearby. The photos don’t lie; this is a really splendid castle. Enjoy.
This chateau is very interesting and fun to tour. Self guided tour device told its history along the way. Added touch throughout the chateau - boxes with keys - you open to find more information. Really great chateau to visit.
The cost of admission (8 euros) includes a self guided tour device with interesting stories that really made the chateau come to life for us. Several little cafes around the entrance so you can sit and have a glass of wine and look at it all.
