batumi archeological museum

I was excited about visiting the museum after hearing so much about the history of Batumi, about Medea and Jason and golden fleece, the early settlements, the history and culture of wine making ... I simply expected too much ... the display is very limited .. still the photos of golden jewellery are eye catching ... good supply of copies of jewellery for sale ... very cheap entrance fee (3 lari), but be sure you have local currency with you or you will end up running around to find exchange office

I was happy to find out that at this museum you can get a guided tour - it's only 5GEL and was worth very tetri of it. The tour can be in either Georgian, Russian or English. The room with local flora and fauna was oldish, but if you consider that it was once a private collection, then take a quick walk and move on. The guide will be happy to give you all the details about the history of Adjaria and the city. If they ask you whether you want to see the skeleton of a whale or the rare chess collection - do take 5 minutes of our time and look! They are proud of the whale, but chess collection is one of the few in the world.

Seemed very much under construction and dilapidated. We did not proceed to check out the exhibitions.

One the plus side: Batumi's location - on the site of a Greek harbor and a fortified Roman port (among other incarnations) makes for some remarkable remnants from these periods -- ceramics, coins, glass, among others. This museum also holds some Paleolithic and Neolithic artifacts and remains claiming to be from ca. 1.8 million years ago. There are written explanations in Georgian, Russian, and English. Very inexpensive; rarely crowded, easy to reach.On the negative side: the exhibits are unimaginative and could use more context (although to be fair I did not listen to the available audiotapes). The gift shop has some wildly expensive gold jewelry replicas and not much else. Overall: Could use an "extreme museum makeover," but for those in the know, an interesting display from this ancient city.

Музей хоть и небольшой, но очень приятный. Стоит недорого, правда, не помню сколько. Есть коллекция посуды и золота. Мы экскурсию не брали, наверно зря.

Хороший музей о древней истории древней земли. Очень советую брать экскурсию. Что понравилось - не так много людей, поэтому, скорее всего, вам никто не помешает.

Отличный музей, который обязательно надо посетить. Много интересных старинных экспонатов. Посетителей не много, поэтому можно побродить по музею в тишине и покое. Есть очень интересные коллекции - реально стоит зайти.

In einem alten und gut modernisierten Gebäude werden interessante Stücke aus Ausgrabungen rund um Batumi präsentiert. Absolut sehenswert! Tip: ich habe alle meine Reisemitbringesel im Museumsshop erworben.

Пишут, что самый большой музей в Батуми. Если есть с чем сравнивать, то воображение размерами не поражает, но колекция посуды интересная. Римские, греческие, колхидские образцы, есть очень красивые. Экскурсовод любит свою страну, сильно заметно, рассказывает очень интересно. В прошлом году открылас золотая комната - завораживает.

я побывала в этом музее еще до открытия после реставрации, возможно видела не все экспонаты. В основном представлено наследие римского периода и средневековья, а также находки с местных раскопок.

İçerisi biraz sıcak sanırım havalandırma sorunu var, göreceğiniz şeyler pek ilgi çekici değil , sıradan bir arkeoloji müzesi diyebilirim.Ama vakitiniz var ise gezmenizde fayda var,en azından gitmedim demezsiniz :)

Довольно познавательно. Если будет свободное время, сходите обязательно. Открыли для себя массу интересного.

В музее представлены очень интересные экспонаты, что еще раз подтверждает то, что Грузия - страна с очень древней историей. Хотя все экспонаты подписаны и в принципе все понятно, лучше всего все-таки воспользоваться услугами гида и послушать интересный рассказ. Нам было интересно узнать что-то новое и увидеть это своими глазами.
