Great little place with a great vibe. Friendly owner and without question the best pork ribs in Bohemia.

This is hands down the best restaurant in Cesky Krumlov. As a frugal traveller, prices are important to me and Cesky Krumlov has it's fair share of over-priced restaurants. This is by far the best value for a sit down meal in the heart of the small town. I had the pleasure of eating here several times and the food never ceased to amaze me. The goulas is hearty and the beer is refreshing. The owner spoke great English, was very friendly, and genuinely cares about his customers. Don't miss this place on the weekends, the owners son plays in a Gypsy band inside the restaurant. It turns into a local hotspot with beer flowing and people dancing on the street. Cikanska Jizba is an experience in itself - don't miss out!!

You don't come here for the food...it is typical Czech food, okay but nothing to rave about. What you come here for, on a Friday or Saturday night is the atmosphere and the band. Starting around eight o'clock ( but get there earlier if you want a table), the band starts to sing and play, the drinking starts, the dancing in between the tables begins, and a good time is had by all. It's a real experience you will enjoy!

We went here for dinner while in Cesky Krumlov. The food and beer were delicious, it had a cute atmosphere, service was okay (you're not gonna get excellent service in the Czech Republic), we were able to get an English menu. My boyfriend had the pork cutlet, which he really enjoyed, and I had the spicy chicken breast which was very very good. We loved how cheap it is to eat in Czech Republic.

My girlfriend and I were in Cesky Krumlov for one week and ate here almost every day. There was a great selection of traditional Czech foods and amazing prices for beer.The owner Milan was friendly and he seemed to really enjoy seeing us day after day. We tried almost everything on the menu and there wasn't a single thing my girlfriend and I didn't enjoy.The live music they play on weekends was incredible. The owners son is in one of the bands that play and was extremely talented. The music was upbeat, catchy, and fun to listen to.We sat on the bench out front which offered some good views up and down Dlouha street. It was also interesting to see countless people read the menu but then wander off to another restaurant since they were probably too afraid to try something new.The restaurant is literally a hole in the wall on Dlouha street but no trip to Cesky Krumlov is complete without a visit to Cikanska Jizba. We will definitely visit again when we return to Cesky Krumlov and I highly recommend everyone check this place out.

We had a great time listening and watching the local Roma band playing and locals dancing. They serve local beers and service is fast and efficient.

Very nice. Not a top restaurant , but tasty food, served up with good humour and a smile in a small unusual setting. Not expensive . Go.....you won't be sorry !

This one is a mixed bag for me. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and music and friendly locals here. There was a gypsy band playing and people dancing on tables and having a great time and we met a few locals and a couple tourists and had fun. This place is tiny and packed with people but not so much you couldn't move. You would, however, (as my friend found out) occasionally get elbowed in the eye by some flamboyant dancing patrons or fell on by others, but I guess that's part of it. Just make sure to have a few drinks before coming in here and you'll be fine.We also came late night so there was only pizza available but the pizza was relatively cheap and it was good.Why three stars? The service was terrible. The bartender (and the owner from what I understand) was a jerk and pretty much ignored us when asking for anything. Yes, we're tourists, and I understand not everyone likes that in a local bar, but I know enough Czech to get by and order, and I did, but it didn't matter. I didn't see him smile one time. "Typical Czech service" the locals tell me, but it was really off-putting. He wasn't just unfriendly, he was unnecessarily aggressive.Regardless, I'd still come here again.

Very small restaurant in the old part of town so very quaint indeed. However the when the band started playing the beer was going good but everyone, I mean everyone, smoked that came in. A couple of small ceiling fans blew the smoke around but it was too much to bear! The waiter was very abrupt & surly but maybe that's the theme. The owner sat and watched the whole restaurant with a keen eye on young women who may enter and invited them to his table for a drink. The food arrived eventually, it was very good traditional eastern European food, no fault on this. The bill was surprisingly little however I think we were overcharged. The band played hard and really tried their best to entertain, quite a lively party. IF it wasn't for the smoke I would be giving it a 5 rating.

This place is a total experience - an experience you won't soon forget. But make sure you go on a night when there's music. The place gets packed to the gills, people sharing tables, and dancing in the aisles. It also gets very smokey, but you won't care. At the end of the night, you'll hate to leave. I actually visited in December 2010, but Tripadvisor won't let me pick a date before May 2012.

We came on a Thursday night, so there wasn't any music, so I feel like my review might be a bit biased. It was around 8pm or so, and they had sold out of their pasta already, so I was a bit bummed. My mom and I ordered the rice pilaf, which was a disappointment, because it was basically just white rice and thawed frozen vegetables. It tasted alright, but it wasn't very good pilaf. The inside of the place was nice though, with a nice, old-world ambiance, but the waiter turned on both fans when it was freezing outside - not the best place if you're cold-blooded. So, based on the other reviews of this place, I would try to go on a weekend night when there is music - the servers/owners don't seem to be all that excited or care too much about visitors on week days in the winters.

Let me put it this way, you can't go to Krumlov and not go there. This place has an awesome feel, and you won't leave without having had a great time and a smile on your face! Gypsy band plays all night, they are absolutely amazing and the people mixing up and being part of it all makes it even more fun. Only downside is that it isn't a non-smoking place, so you might have a bit of trouble with that if you're a non-smoker. But even that can't make me rate this any lower than 5 stars!

A friend and I were looking for a lively place to have a few drinks last night and we decided to check this out. I had read about it in my Rick Steves guide and he found it on TA. The bar was absolutely packed (and very smokey). The band was really a treat. We enjoyed the lively tunes and the enthusiastic singing. I think we were the only two who weren't a part of a large family group or friends of family. We clearly stood out as the two young Americans crammed in at a table with locals. While no one was friendly or inviting, we weren't chased away. We were sorry when the music came to and end and everyone started to drift out after midnight. Very fun! Would love to return!

At present this house serves as restaurant, called "Cikánská jizba" (Gypsy Bar). Exterior: a two storey building with a Baroque façade, its core (ground floor, parts of walls basement vaults) dates b ack to the Gothic period, layout of the ground floor configured during Renaissance. In the cellars (also stretched out under house number 30) was a malt oven until 1695. Proprietress Uršula Zieglerová sold the building, the brewery and malt oven to 240 for 240 kop grošů to businessman Klaudio Juratov. In the last third of the 18th century axploited as tannery, past1839 used by shoemakers.

We actually stumbled across this place when walking around looking for a place to eat. The food we got was fairly cheap, and although tasty it was really salty, so make sure you have a drink. When we were walking past here a few nights later it was pumping with the band and we wanted to go in but it was packed. Looked really fun!
