Castle is closed in the winter time, so we could only see the outside but it is for sure worthwhile to make a stop when you pas Mikulov. Gardens are currently under renovation, open from mid august 2015
This chateau on border between Moravia and Austria used to be a medieval castle. Owners of the town and the chateau, the families Liechtenstein and Dietrichstein, developed their residence to shine with Baroque elegance. The chateau houses the Regional Museum in Mikulov. My favourite artefacts are from the field of viticulture and traditon of making wine. I am pretty sure you will be impressed facing the giant wine barrel originated in 17th century, times of the Thirty Year War.
I visited Mikulov for the conference & I wasn't going to visit the Castle. But excursion was organized for participants of the conference & I wasn't disappointed at all !!!! The Castle has interesting paintings & portraits, pieces of furniture & clothes of past times. It also has really great library & vine cellar...The view of Mikulov from the terrace of the Castle is amazing !!It's very pleasant just to walk around the Castle as well...Yes, of cause, there are more interesting, authentic & rich castles but I don't think you'll be disappointed if you spend an hour to visit it.
A beautiful chateau steeped in history from the 13th century Lichtensteins to the 16th Cenutry Dietrichstein families, hugly baroque in architecture. Sadly it was closed to public on our visit so we walked up the wqtch tower (be wary of very steep steps, wobbly bannisters and low ceilings) for a great view over the UNESCO town and St Wenceslas Church.
Mikulov is just beautiful and seem from afar it leaves you mouth opened. In a sunny day as it was today it is difficult not to be surprised on how these Moravian little gems are not more widely known.Astonishing
We only had about half an hour to spend around the MMikulov Castle, but it is worth to explore it even if you don't plan on going inside and buying the guided tour. You can always just wander around in the gardens and explore all the gates and the beautiful houses around the castle and around the jewish synagogue. Beautiful place.
The best was this great view from the castle, the town and the surrounding nature on one hand. The sign stated that the Dietrichstein's family built the town based in Italian style. The same impression we had when we first saw the main square. Really beautiful town, definitely worth to see.
I think its really nice place to go and visit.. I would not travel there from long distance, but if you are in the area of Mikulov, is really nice place to go and just relax.. Its bit windy there, so make sure you take what is necessary to keep warm.
The town center and this castle are a nice place to visit for an afternoon. Mikulov is accesible by bus and train from nearby towns.
Nice and romantic destination for the whole family in the middle of a wine region, close to all UNESCO listed castles and other attractions.
Loved it, but I am not sure what I love more: the view, the park, the watchtower, the atmosphere, the lavenders everywhere...
Miejsce bajeczne.
