The very heart of Turin. Several years ago it was nearly an highway, with thousands of cars flowing around the square night and day. Now it is a beautiful place to stroll around, enjoy the view of Palazzo Reale and Palazzo Madama and the portico all around the square.A worthwile visit.
One of the best squares in Turin. Good place to see the Castello, take a photo and eat a piadine will you see the tourists.
A visit to Turin should start with a stroll around Piazza Castello. It is big and grand. This is where the Palazzo Reale is, and the Palazzo Madama. It is in the midst of it all being a short stroll to the Palatine Towers. It is also close to the shops in Piazza Carlo.
Definitely worth the visit as a starting point for a walking tour through central Turin. Also vist the Royal Palace from the inside. Really worthwhile.
This piazza is truly in the center of town, you've got the church that holds the holy shroud to your left, the palace as well, the museum of (russian was the expo when we went) art, great shopping to the right and some other historical buildings all over. The piazza is huge with many benches and just a great view. For some reason we kept on doing circles one day and kept on falling on this place.... we weren't navigating ourselves very well.... well there was tons of music, artists doing their thing, hey I got to listen to MC Hammer and "break it down"... can't vote poorly when you get to do that in Italy...
It's located in the middle of the historical center of Turin. Really close to most important tourist objectives.
The piazza is a very interesting landmark and starting point for exploring Torino and venturing around the city centre to see some of the historic buildings but also close proximity to eating and shopping places.
the different shops around the piazza are interesting. The fashion and the gelateria, and the beautiful historic cafe are places to go.
This square forms the centre of Turin and represents all that is best about the city, its regal elegance and charm, the architectural beauty and the stylish shops bars and restaurants. A visit to the Palazzo Reale or Royal Palace is a must. Soak in the sheer opulence of the gold leaf in the palace. Nearby Palazzo Madama a baroque masterpiece with medieval rear is worth a visit. Also the shops and boutiques under the arcades towards Via Roma. Try lunch at Baratti & Milano also in the square and nearby are the Sabauda Gallery and Egyptian Museum famous throughout the world. Turin never fails to attract me though I have been there so many times and it remains my favourite city, well worth a visit at any time of the year.
Very nice piazza with view on several beautiful palazzos, like the Palazzo Reale and the Palazzo Madama.
Whenever I can I get to Piazza Castello just to have a walk, grab a dring or a "focaccia" and chat with my friend. It's a very nice piazza in the center of Torino and.. did you know there are three castles in this square? It should be "Piazza Castelli"!!
As everything in Turin - this central piazza is practically empty at any time except weekends. There are not cafes and restaurants on it. Instead there are 3 great buildings/museums on the same square, each worth a visit. Plus, the best ice-cream/granita in town is right there (Vanilla).
I like this piazza and this is where things happen in Turin...protests, gatherings, fairs, markets...you name it! It's right by the castle, the church of San Lorenzo, and is quite stunning as you approach it from Piazza San Carlo and the train station. Behind it, the gardens are lovely for a walk and the opera is in the same piazza, as are some nice places to stop for coffee, ice cream or frozen yogurt.
Pretty much in the centre of the city, stands Piazza Castello and adjacent to this building from the 1500's you'll find some of the city's most illustrious buildings and modern shops with some well-known brands, trendy eateries and amazing varieties of gelati. It's also nice to have something to eat sitting on a bench in the piazza and just watch the world go by - it costs nothing to do this. From this point, it's easy enough to walk to the Egyptian museum, Carignano theatre, Palazzo Madama, Palazzo Reale and several other points of interest.
