Entry to the Certosa di Pisa is by guided tour only. The price is five euro. On the day we visited we waited fifteen minutes for our guided tour. The tour included the main church. Four of the monks private chapels, gardens, and a monk's room.We also saw the Grand Duke of Tuscany's private suite as well as the pharmacy and dining room. The wall paintings throughout the building were amazing.
It was a very special place in Certosa Di Pisa. Firstly the surrounding was marvelous, second of all it located next to a monastery. It was a contradicting combination, God and The Evolution. Well done. The Abissi was greatly done and it was impressive. The Aquarium was beautiful and we felt sorry for those wonderful fishes. Thanks for sharing this with us!The collection in this museum is great! we had a great time.It was pity that only limited information is translated in English. We had a great day !!
An interesting visit to this old monastery. The guide was very helpful, and had a lot of knowledge about the history etc. It was very peaceful and quiet and i was quite envious of the monks! Worth visiting!
Just a 20min bus ride from Pisa is this wonderful monastery, surrounded by the most beautiful Tuscan countryside. The place is beautiful but not well advertised in my opinion. Inside this monastery there is a peaceful atmosphere and lots of nice frescoes and artwork to appreciate. We had a guided tour of the place and there were so few people! At first we thought we made a wrong decision to go there because the bus was empty and so was the road leading to the place, but inside this place are some nice works which really should not be missed! The entrance ticket is 5euro with a reduction for students and free for seniors (if not mistaken). In my opinion, the local council of the place should do more to make this place better known because it feels like it's a bit of a neglected jewel. Pisa and surroundings is definately more than Piazza dei Miracoli!
We really enjoyed an hour long guided tour of the Certosa Monastery. Although it may look a little neglected from the outside, it contains some of the most beautifully painted interiors and amazing frescos, especially the ones in the refectory. Easy to get to from Pisa, about 20 minutes drive from the airport, and with the Natural History Museum next door, it is worth a visit.
You need some time to be here and not get too involved with the Leaning Tower, Frescos in the Duoma are really the thing.
A great kids' attraction to break up all the churches and historical attractions that often dominate our days in italy... Fish tanks and rocks and dinosaur skeletons - all in part of the old monastry.
Very interesting and the Certosa is an astonishing place to visit.
The Charterhouse is very interesting and only allowed entrance with a guide. We arrived and waited a good half hour for one to arrive. Perhaps one can make a reservation, but I don't know. It's a former monastery whose order kept the vow of silence, only speaking once a week. The church is consecrated and used for mass Oct. 6, to honor its patron St. Bruno. The views from some windows of the Valgraziosa, of the Pisan Mountains, were beautiful. We found it esp. interesting to compare where the monks lived and where the visiting nobles stayed.Unfortunately, this is not easy to reach without a car. We took a bus and happened to have a nice driver who dropped us at an intersection steps away. However, the return wasn't as pleasant. We had just missed a bus, and the next one was not not for some time (too long to wait). So we had to walk into Calci to find a bus stop that would take us back into Pisa and then waited a little over an hour.
Merita assoluti a visita.
