I went in October 2014 not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. I don't normally like guided visits, but the man running the tour that day did very well, knowledgeable and open to questions. Well worth going for some proper insight into the history of an amazing city. It was difficult to find at first because the hospital is undergoing transformation (the 700 year old building will be a visit-able tourist attraction because the hospital is moving elsewhere I believe) but as the tour is underneath the ancient hospital it will be in the area somewhere! It was through the waiting room when I went, just look out for leaflets and handwritten signs on doors. The ceilings are low in places, but it didn't feel claustrophobic.

When visiting a city, I am curious to see and try to understand the life of common inhabitants and Pistoia Sotterranea completes the picture.The tour starts at Ospedale del Ceppo, situated in Piazza Giovanni XXIII. There are presented the steps of the city development, water wheels of an olive oil press and iron workshop and tools found on site, remaining of the feudal city draw bridge.The guided tour, about one hour long, is presented, in English, by a knowledgeable professional. The amphitheatre of the old Medical School is part of the tour. Presented as the smallest amphitheatre in the world, was design to accommodate the professor, four assistant professors and ten students. There are displayed era surgical instruments.

I visited the ancient underground of the city of Pistoia. Arrived with the train, from the station a short walk.You go to the Ospedale del Ceppo, built in the 1300, Piazza Giovanni XXIII, 13.Tickets cost € 9 and gives you the possibility to visit with discount the museum IRSA -www.irsapt.it - included in the price is a guide, I was with Francesco, great guy.The tour starts with the old school of patology very, very interesting. In about 45 minutes you are out in the open.No problem for claustophobia. Had a great day.

I saw this underground museum in the tourist information centre but thought that I might not be able to find it. I later came across it by pure coincidence, and very soon embarked on an private underground journey because there were no other tourists. The tour guide Francesco was very accommodating even though I was the sole tourist in the group.

This attraction, and indeed, the entire city of Pistoia, are well worth the trip as lesser-known destinations in Tuscany. Trust me, take some time away from Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and Lucca and make a side trip here.Pistoia has a handsome centro storico, and the staff at Pistoia Sotterranea give a wonderful tour of the ancient, lower level of the city. Strongly recommended!

Per caso ci siamo trovati all'ospedale del Ceppo ed abbiamo partecipato alla visita sotterranea che si é rivelata sommamente interessante. La guida Signora Francesca era molto amabile e professionale. Consigliamo di vedere questa opera imponente.

Visita tassativamente guidata, ma ben gestita. Il costo come scrivono alcuni non saranno pochi, ma il lavoro fatto è immenso. Bene che continueranno....

quando ho visto la pubblicita' di questa visita sono corso subito per vedere pistoia sotterranea...beh e' una bella esperienza passare sotto la citta' e vedere un tratto delle vecchie condotte...peccato che sia solamente un tratto, secondo me ce ne sono molti altri di chilometri di gallerie da esplorare..pero' e' molto affascinante...completano la visita, un bellissimo studiolo anatomico dell'antico ospedale...consigliato

Come visita è estremamente particolare, ed include un pezzo dell'antico ospedale, ed un giro nel condotto sotterraneo nel quale scorreva il torrente (e sul quale è costruito l'ospedale). Il prezzo è più che adeguato (9 euro), ma bagni ed infrastrutture dell'ospedale (attivo fino al 2013) sono assurdamente mal tenute.

molto interessante anche per famiglie con bambini. Scoperto per caso cercando on line, forse un po' caro (famiglia 2 + 2 bambini 30 euro) ma è sicuramente una visita molto interessante ed istruttiva.

Molto suggestivo, le sensazioni sono quelle di catapultarsi in altri tempi, la struttura e la storia sono davvero affascinanti. Consigliato

Bellissimo percorso di un'oretta circa nel letto dell'antico torrente sopra il quale era sorto lo storico ospedale del ceppo di Pistoia. Percorso adatto anche a disabili e a mamme con passeggino (come me), durante il quale ammirare antiche ceramiche usate dall'ospedale dal 1200-1300, ruote di frantoi e del fabbro, lavatoi medievali,... Bellissimo!

Bella l'idea di recuperare questo passaggio sotterraneo, ricco di storia "a strati".In realtà si tratta di poche centinaia di metri, ma ben recuperati e organizzati.La guida (compresa nel biglietto) è molto preparata e racconta in modo interessante la storia del luogo.L'unico neo è il biglietto troppo salato. Spero rivedano questo aspetto.
