Worth the short stop. Great story. Lovely surroundings. Awe inspiring that it was originally built in medieval times.
Short visit,it only take 10mins stay. You can park near the bridge and go for a walk through. Nice view of the river and the train railways.
We were very fortunate recently as they lowered the water levels so we could see a lot more of the bridge than usual. Its a very unusual shape and its well described in the car park so you can read all about it in English. Its worth mentioning that car thieves operate in this area so do not leave any valuables inside your car unattended.A coffee shop and tourist shop is also opposite the bridge!
This bridge is one of the most unusual I've ever seen, and really is worth spending 30 minutes of your time experiencing if you're travelling up or down the Serchio Valley. Legend has it that the devil built the bridge for the villagers on condition he received the soul of the first one to cross it,but the local folk weren't as green as they were cabbage looking and sent over a dog! Stories aside,it really is an impressive structure,in a picturesque spot, with some excellent photo opportunities. Be extremely careful parking, and crossing the road if you are on the west side of the bridge as the traffic is quite unforgiving!
The bridge is very beautiful, making a perfect circle with it's reflection in the river. It is also very quirky, with grass growing in the middle, because probably only tourists attempt to cross it!The setting is lovely, with a picturesque ancient building on one bank.
This amazing bridge is well worth seeing! Stop and take a walk to the top, you won't regret it. Take a photo, the view over the river Serchio is amazing! And if you think about it, it was quite an achievement, from the architectural point of view, at the time!
Want to see a really antique bridge that connects the two sides of the Valle del Serchio (the valley of the Serchio River) which is divided by the Serchio River? Go to Borgo a Mozzano, about 20 minutes North of Lucca in Tuscany. Originally built in 1100, it still stands today. Why strange? It has a ' hump' in the middle and is assymetrical. Just beyond the pretty town of Borgo a Mozzano going from Lucca to Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. Make sure to be on the right side of the Serchio River as you drive up from Lucca because that's where you'll find the parking area. Make sure to get out of your car and walk on the bridge; it's like walking back in time.
On our way to Lucca from Barga we saw this magnificent bridge. It'll worth a stop to take in its beauty. Couldn't find it in any guide book.
This enchanting bridge is something special. It's a very steep climb up to the top, but it's just wonderful. The history behind it and the stories of it being built on a deal with the devil that the first soul over the bridge would belong to him...so the locals sent a dog over first. You can see the beauty of this spot and it's just very romantic!!! There is a bar on one side of the bridge for any food, bathroom needs!!!
Must see if you are in the area. I went kayaking on the Lima river and on my way home drove past this bridge I had heard so much about. To be honest I didn't expect it to be anything special. As soon as I saw it from the car we had to stop, it looked just too fascinating to miss it.The structure of the bridge is uneven - very steep on one side - which gives it a very unique look. The walk on the steep side is really cool, and when you get on top you have beautiful view on the river, it looked like a Norwegian fyord, I took some great pictures from here. The bridge is from 1100 - rebuilt around 1400 - which is really impressive. Imho a must see, and must take a picture of the landscape from the top.
Very memorable trip and makes for some amazing pictures, from atop or below. Easy enough walk for almost anyone. Perfect place to propose to your loved one if it's in your heart :)Romance is in the air!
This amazing piece of medieval architecture is well worth a visit/photo call. The bridge has good information boards to tell you ll about it's history and a short visit with a walk to the top is both easy and worthwhile.
This is pretty much it. There is a small car park and a cafe/restaurant on one side. Worth a trip to if you're heading past or visiting Licca, well worth a long walk/short drive if you're staying in Bagni di Lucca.A good climb, especially if you've a buggy as its not the flatest of surfaces - but it is over 800 years old. Would stuggle to cross with a wheelchair as it does get very steep.
Far grander than its namesake bridge in Kirkby Lonsdale Cumbria this is a magnificent structure that is well worth a trip out of Lucca to see. All the arches are of different sizes but the central high arch is nothing less than magnificent both in its height and its grandeur. It yields to great photoshots from all angles. It is poignant to know that countless pilgrims from the north , including Britain used the bridge in medieval times on their long overland pilgrimage to Rome.
A very picturesque sight and a good work out after lunch if you wish to cross the river on foot. Just watch out in case your soul goes missing.......
