Am not a Buddhist nor a fan of it but I must admit that this place has shown a different face of how I see it due to the film shown in the basement. Lovely collections anyway, some are intriguingly surprising I must say. You can get out and just get back in if you haven't finished exploring the place and in case you get hungry - restos are a walk away.

If you only do one trip from Enkirch go to a Traben Trarbach - it is only 3 miles down the river. When you're there please go and visit the Buddha museum. It is restful, interesting and beautiful - even if you have never had an interest in Buddhism. Go to the roof garden and breathe in the brilliant view of the river and surrounding hills. Bliss

While staying at an Ayurvedic hotel in Traben-Trarbach, Germany, the Parkschlossen , I visited with other hotel guests The Buddha Museum in the local town. This museum hosts an interesting display and a very large one , of various statues of Buddha from all over the world ---- very interesting and worthwhile visit .....

Lovely Traben-Trarbach, nestling in the wine soaked valley of the Mosel, really is a two-bit town: the Traben bit on one side of the river, and the Trarbach bit on the other, linked by a bridge, and now an administrative whole. The Buddha Museum is in the Trarbach bit, right by the river and something of an oddity, especially offset against its counterpart museum of local history, since Buddha has 'god all' to do with Trarbach, other than, as I understand it, one man's collecting passion. Heaven knows what the museum would have looked like if he had collected fishing rods. But as it is it has impressive exhibits presented with impact in a non-museumy way. Where does it fit in? If you are spending a significant amount of time in Traben-Trarbach you might want to get under the town's skin and Buddha isn't a local's skin. If you are amongst the tour boats' raiding parties of tourists disgorged periodically to seep through the town's streets like a flood tide (see the high water marks on the river-side buildings) you may not want to commit your whole visit time to one out-of-place museum. I suggest that you do, there are other Traben-Trarbachs along the Mosel, but there is only one Buddha Museum.

In Protestant Germany, seat of the reformation, this unexpected and beautiful collection of Buddhas from around the world is staggering in it's size and literally glows with the energy of the Bodisatvas. The museum is gorgeous, organized to allow understanding of both the meaning behind each figure and the region from which it came and lit to provide a natural feel to the displays.I had no idea such a place existed and had only 25 minutes in which to try to absorb as much as possible from a collection that would require at least 25 hours to fully appreciate, but to my delight I was personally escorted through the museum by it's curator, Lydia Unger who led me to the most important elements of the collection, explained their significance and also gave me an excellent brochure in English.At 15 euros I considered this collection a bargain and my happy discovery of this treasure a highlight of my European vacation. This place is a gem and in my opinion, a must-see!

Well worth spending €15.00 to see this amazing collection of Buddha figures from Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar/Burma, Tibet, Bhutan, Japan and other regions, ranging from almost 4m high statues to tiny miniatures. Not all exhibits are labelled but there is enough general information with regards to different periods and regions.

The size of the collection is truly amazing and justifies the entry fee of 15 Euros. However, the exhibits are poorly labelled. Most Buddhas are not lapebbeled at all, which gives the museum the feel of a 'Buddha warehouse'.

We were entering the town of Traben-Tarbach on bicycle, and in the center of the traffic circle were advertisements for the Buddha Museum. Looking around we realized we had just pedaled past the museum on the other side of the road, and partly from the novelty of Buddhas in a small town on the Moselle, we voted to postpone lunch and turn around.Good choice. Not only is the sheer quantity of Buddhas amazing, but also their variety. A significant attempt has been made to organize them by place and time, so that they may be compared across cultures. English-language material is a little thin, especially if you are not familiar with Buddhist precepts already.The roof terrace is a lovely place to sit and rest.This is a private museum; indeed it appears to be largely the work of one collector. (I noticed a number of acquisitions from Cambodia and Vietnam during the Southeast Asian wars; better safe in Germany than destroyed in situ, I suppose). The downside of the lack of public support is that the entrance fee is a shocking 15€ (child, student, senior discounts).

Ich hatte durch Zufall von diesem Museum gehört und heute haben wir uns auf den Weg dort hin gemacht und es hat sich mehr als gelohnt.In der Ausstellung sind Buddah Figuren aus dem gesamten asiatischen Bereich ausgestellt. Die Ausstellung ist sehr geschmackvoll gemacht, im Hintergrund läuft die ganze Zeit über asiatische Musik.. Die Ausstellung bringt den Besucher der buddhistischen Philosophie sehr anschaulich und informativ näher.Das Museum ersteckt sich über drei Etagen, verpassen Sie auf keinen Fall die Dachteresse, von der aus man einen wunderbaren Blick über die Mosel hat.Die Tickets für das Museum sind nicht gerade günstig (15€), aber man kann das Museum damit den ganzen Tag betreten.Im Museum gibt es natürlich einen Andenken-Shop und man hat dort die Möglichkeit, es sich auf gemütlichen Sofas bequem zu machen und einen Tee oder Kaffe in einer schönen Umgebung zu trinken. Die sanitären Anlagen sind sehr modern und sauber.Vor dem Museum befinden sich Parkplätze.Im Museum werden, lt. Internet, auch Führungen angeboten. Wir hatten das große Glück, auf den Mann treffen, der diese Führungen offenbar veranstaltet. Die Informationen in unserem kurzen Gespräch waren sehr reichhaltig, ich denke eine ganze Führung wird sich auf jeden Fall lohnen und ich bin fast traurig, dass wir nicht zum richtigen Zeitpunkt da waren.

eine wunderschöne, umfangreiche Buddha- Sammlung mit ausführlichen, sehr interessanten Informationen. Ästhetischer Augenschmaus in einem perfekt restaurierten alten Weinlager/-keller.

Een vrij nieuw maar interessant museum, waar een zeer breed scala aan buddhabeelden staan opgesteld. Het gebouw is in de stijl van een oosterse tempel.

Für unseren 3-tägigen Moselaufenthalt haben wir uns auch den Besuch des Buddha-Museums vorgenommen. 2000 Ausstellungsstücke auf 4000 m², das ist schon gewaltig. Bereits an der Kasse hat uns ein freundlicher Herr mit dem Aufbau des weiträumigen Museums bekannt gemacht. Auf 4 Ebenen werden kleine und große Ausstellungsstücke aus allen Ländern Ostasiens, sauber katalogisiert und zugeordnet, ausgestellt. In jedem Raum sind Beschreibungshefte ausgelegt, in denen man sich über die Eigenheiten der wichtigsten Exponate, über die Hauptrichtungen und Grundlagen des Buddhismus informieren kann. Die asiatischen Klänge im Hintergrund versetzen einen in die richtige Stimmung. Die Ausstellungsstücke sind absolut beeindruckend und sehr gut erhalten. In den zwei Stunden im Museum haben wir viele Eindrücke aufgenommen, bis dann das Gehirn überfordert war. Wir empfehlen einen Besuch mit Pausen dazwischen, wenn man wirklich alle Erläuterungen lesen und alle Exponate anschauen möchte. Der Eintrittspreis von 15 Euro hat uns kurz überrascht, ist aber zur Erhaltung der Sammlung sicher angemessen, da im Museum nicht die großen Touristenmassen anzutreffen sind.

Jetzt mal ehrlich: Wer erwartet mitten im Moselland so eine Sammlung? Optimal aufbereitet und kompetent kommentiert - ein Juwel, das zu Unrecht im verborgenen blüht.

Был январь, у меня были сутки с небольшим. И мой друг немец решил показать мне этот городок. Увы - зима была явно не сезон для туристов, кое-как нашли работающее кафе, где с удовольствием согрелись чаем и немецким "глюнтвайном")). Обойдя почти весь городок ( по -крайней мере самые интересные места) - мы решили зайти в этот музей. На входе встречает мужчина, похож на индуса в европейской одежде...Куча проспектов вокруг, итд. Вход, как по мне стоил прилично ( ну для такого музея в не сезон в такой глуши... - но это мое мнение) - почти 20 евро за одного. Дальше пошли бродить. Конечно есть, на что посмотреть, многочисленные и разнообразные фигуры, памятники, статуэтки от огромных, до тех, что могут уместиться на спичечной головке( хотела сделать фото, но туристический фотик - не позволил сделать четкое фото этой крохи)....Что запомнилось, кроме многочилсленных залов - это потрясающий вид на город...эдакая панорама...Вот за это - еще можно было отдать 40 евро за двоих..особенно, если бы это было летом...Музей - запомнился...городок - тоже, хоть и безлюдный, но очень красивый и очень "немецкий".На выходе вам предложат купить проспект, благовония, книги и прочее...И не забудьте оставить монетку на счастье в руках Буды у любой, понравившейся вам статуэтки.
