If you are passing through Ramstein or Landstuhl on a quick visit this is very close to both bases and a great way to pass the time and get to see a bit of German history. The drive up is quite easy and well marked with brown signs.
Considering the age of this castle, it is in good shape. A good bit of the main walls remain. It costs 3.00 Euro to enter. They offer a guided tour for about 30 euro (I did not investigate into the tour more than that). if you are a history buff, this castle might be a little disappointing. There are relatively no plaques on the ground to show what the castle might have looked like or anything providing tid-bits of stories. The most informative plague is in German (and more or less translated and placed on wikipedia). The castle has an awesome view of the surrounding areas. There are two restaurants on by the castle too...both are worth visiting!
Pretty good ruins and one of the few in that part of Germany, so nice not to have to go a long way. Good view, decent food, and a nice walking trail up all make up for a nice way to spend a decent weather day. It is also a venue for some concerts, and really gets lively then!
This Burg was once a way to protect travelers and locals. You can into the Burg for a minimal fee. You can go up into upper floors and down into the cellars, a pamphlet guides your journey. The grounds and view are beautiful. The restaurant has very good food, but no children's menu. If you bring your dog, they have designated water bowls and treats for them. You can enjoy your meal and the view of the lower villages.
It's December. Gray. Rainy. Windy. and Cold. What better place to have lunch than here. Wood fire, great beer, scrumptious food. Weinerschnetzel, salad, pea soup, goose dish. The service was 'grandmotherly,' fast and friendly. The warmest ambience anywhere. A beautiful view below. This place is a must if you're in the area.
I recommend to park in the city and take a nice walk through the forest to the castle. A restaurant is located outside which serves traditional German food. You have to pay to get into the castle itself but it is worth the money. You have a great view from the top tower. Restrooms are available inside the castle.
This unique restaurant is located in a castle. The environment along with the scenic view enhances the flavor of the food. The patrons have the option of indoor seating or outside on the enclosed patio. Pork is the primary staple however; they do have items on the menu without Pork. The restaurant overlooks the entire town of Landstuhl. Customer service is great.
Fun hike through leaf covered trails up to the best views of landstuhl. The castle is closed oct 1 through jan 1 and the restaurant up there is closed as well. Well worth the hike for some beautiful pictures
First, the restaurant has great food and wonderful view. Well worth it to sit and look over the town and the airbase. Second, the castle is pretty well preserved. Not as fancy as some other castles, but worth the time to see it.
There's not only wonderful view from the Burg but around the area is good for walking, hiking and biking. Also the Burg restsurant has a good food!
We bring newcomers to Germany here as their first stop. Great atmosphere and the castle has unique features, and the beer is great at he restaurant.
Well worth the trip up there, super neat ruins, great vantage point to see the pretty city below. The restaurant up there was cool, the wait staff wasn't super friendly to Americans (imagine that) but the food was authentic and priced average.
Simple but fantastic German cuisine with an awesome view of landstuhl and surrounding area. Whether you're going to eat or have a good beer with friends it has never disappointed.
We took a hike around the Burg for a few hours one sunny afternoon. The Burg itself is small and there was an entry fee for a ho-hum visit. However, there are a few nice hiking trails with some good hills to get your heart pumping. Nothing major and you can easily handle it if you are reasonably fit. Sneakers are fine. The best part is that there is a pub up there too! After our hike, we sat a bit and had a beer and coffee. They also serve food and the views are great. It is always a shock to me that historic sites in Germany come with a pub or bar!
The castle is secreted away in the hills above Landstuhl. It is definitely hard to locate but well worth the effort. The setting is quiet with a gorgeous view of Landstuhl. Castle tours are not always available, so call ahead to check. The restaurant on site is good, not great... but has a breathtaking view of the village Landstuhl.
