While touring in and around Athens city, this is one of the best and quiest places of the city, being far from the noise and traffic, bery ideal place to have some good time in total relax.Monastery is also located just in the middle of the small forest and worth to see it.Recommended.
It is said that when God created the world and shared it out, he left the Greeks without a country. When they asked “What about us?”, He gave them the place he had kept for Himself. When you visit Greece you can easily believe the truth of the story.Visiting Kessariani monastery and the surrounding area feels like stepping into eons past. It really is a profound experience. We visited in early December, on a beautifully sunny day and with very few people around, we took our time, enjoying the serenity and beauty of the place. Some advice, though. We took a taxi from Syntagma square and, despite telling the driver where we wanted to go, after getting in he asked us (!) if we knew how to get there. After a rather useless ride, we finally had to get another taxi. Being a quiet weekday, with no taxis passing by the monastery, we had to ask a local visitor to take us to a nearby cemetery where taxis are pretty common. All in all, though, highly recommended.
You will love it all you will be tired and ready for the cruise but do all of them. It is all close together and going back in the past is very hard to describe . I would ho again to see if I missed anything
The Monastery is in a beautiful place of the mountain Hymettus. You can take the Public Bus for Kaisariani and then to walk about 3km in the nature. The orthodox monastery is different from the other monasteries from other religions so I believe is nice idea to see it. Next to this place you can see so many things and to walk in the forest. There is a good map there to see what you can see.
it is a great opportunity to get away for a while from the crowdy centre of the city, go for a walk to a beautoful mountain, Ymitos, to visit kaisariani monastery and after walk around into nature
We really enjoyed coming here for morning opening on a recent weekday (on the weekend it is apparently slammed-crowded with local families). The clean lines of the ancient buildings have a certain feng shui that works. And the stunningly attractive young female archaeology students who are currently working onsite are both friendly and approachable. Photographers will be impressed, especially if they wait til the sun actually crests nearmt Mt. Hymetus. This lesser-known attraction (hate that word) will live up to your expectations. Fine forest trails surround the property. I am done. The end.
Well worth taking a taxi up to the mountain . The views alone are stunning. The monastery is so peaceful such a break from the noise of Athens.
This monastery is in the middle of the forest, and a bit difficult to reach, but you should not be disappointed. The atmosphere, the surrounding forest, and the architecture deserve the visit. You can get there by taxi, but if you can walk a few kilometers, you can go there by public transportation (bus 224 on Sofias) and walk through the forest. there is no possibility to eat nor drink on the way or at teh monastery,
On the mount Immitos you can see from the monastery the whole city of Athens. The monastery people are very friendly. It is very peaceful and a right place to communicate with heaven
In the near mountains of Athens only a 15-20 min from the senter of Athens in the wood of imitos mountain it's the very old and nice monastery of Kaisariani.Nice place to go on bike or walking with a lot of paths in the mountain to walk and pic-nik
Beautiful secluded place away from the noise of Athens though close enough to get to. Great views and the monastery is worth a visit.
We trekked the streets to the vehicular to reach the monastery - a bit weird that you travel through solid rock and then appear at the highest point in Athens. The views are amazing but AVOID the tat tat selling men.
We took a cab here and had him wait for us to bring us back to the Plaka. The views of the city and the Acropolis are second to none. Well worth a little side trip to get here.
This place is amazing! A little ways up in the hills but our cab was only 8 euros. We didn't realize how isolated it was but thankfully the people working taking the tickets had a cell phone and were able to call us a cab back to the city, so you should have the cab wait for an hour or so and make a deal for 20 euros. They did this for us also to St George's mountain for 20 euros and waited 45 mins,on us. This place also has many hiking trails and climb up behind the monastery to a little chapel and see it. With lots of icons people have left and a little pool with koi in it. A little tougher climb but well worth it. The monastery itself was a terrific trip and amazing to see something that was a thousand years old and still I. Such great condition. The 3 person staff was wonderful and let us into the bathrooms and like I said saved us by calling us a return cab.
These are the remains of the monastery which is well restored for the tourists to enjoy and experience the place. The place is set a bit far and in a secluded place but at the same time surrounded by beautiful view and greenery. The travel to the place might take a bit time and can be a little strenuous but the ancient church and the monastery are well worth the effort.
