I would say this is one of the best places you can visit on the island. Not only that it has a significant historical importance, but also in terms of architecture it's fabulous. Besides this, as you can already guess, the palace has a great view also, from the balcony but also from the garden near the "Achilles as guardian" statue where there is some kind of terrace. You can find all kind of art pieces, statues, paintings, old furniture, etc. I am fascinated by the history of the place in the first place, it is always exciting to be in a place where historical figures lived or passed by, to touch things that they touched or to see views that they saw from the same place, it's very fascinating.Other things that you should know about this place is that one ticket costs 7 euros, there is a big parking place, and if you go in the morning there are not many peoples visiting. We've been at the first hour in the morning and there were 3-4 peoples there besides us, but I guess that in the afternoon there are many.If you visit the palace, make sure you read some historical facts about it before, you will enjoy it more!
Have been to the Palace three times. Spend time exploring the gardens and then the interior. Fantastic views of the Island and Corfu Town. Extremely good value for money. I suggest visiting in the morning to avoid the crowds and the heat.
definitely worth a visit. Sissi combined with greek culture. stunning views, great half a day out. worth the 7 odd euros.
historical place, great spot, great building.i enjoyed it.I went for second time with my brother.Stunning garden!!!
Beautiful place, definitely worth a visit. Admire the palace as well as the outdoor space, the gardens and the view. You can get there from the city by bus, so ask your hotel or the bus station for information.
If you like history you will love sissies palace the views from the outside are fantastic inside has a fabulous painting on ceiling as you work if you don't like history don't bother going enjoyed it very much
Corfu is a relatively small island and so is this mansion, which was the summer residence of the queen of Austro-Hungary: Sissi. The relatively short distance from Corfu town makes it an ideal getaway en route Pelekas, for example. Other than that this place is real gem-what's most interesting about it is its history and some of the artifacts on display. Every German speaker would be surprised to learn that Sissi, who is recognized with Austria as a matter of principle, owned a house here. The exhibition on the premises also presents letters of correspondence, mostly in German, which I also found to be of interest. To top it all, the estate overlooks the nearby coastline, which combined with the mansion makes for a picturesque scenery.
Even the palace was built by the Austrian Empress Elisabeth (nickname Sissi) don’t expect to find the Schönbrunn palace here. It was designed as a summer residence – small, quiet and breathing of good taste. The location is great and the place is full with history, interesting stories and pieces of fine art. The garden could be better taking care of but still reminds the lost glory from the age of empires. A must see if you are in Corfu (the Greece's emerald island).
Corfu was a wonderful place to visit - and this palace tells the story of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. The story is one of sadness as you learn about Elisabeth's life - and her ultimately traffic demise. The palace and the grounds are stunning. There are two statues of Achilles here - a magnificent standing statue, and one of Elisabeth's choosing - the dying Achilles. Both are incredible. Make sure to get a photo on the very spot where James Bond 007 was seen standing!!
This Palace was built by Empress Elisabeth of Austria. The location is superb with wonderful views and beautiful gardens. I especially like the courtyard with charming statues and fountain. The Palace itself has a small museum relating to Empress Elisabeth also Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany who bought the Palace after the death of Elisabeth. There is also a cafe/restaurant nearby which has marvellous views.
Although it begun as a summer palace for the emperess Sissi of Austria, after her son died and she got apart from her husband, the emperor Franz Josef, this palace became the permanente home for Sissi. It is named after Achilles, Greek hero of the Trojan War and the central character and greatest warrior of Homer's Iliad, wich was a favorite of the beautiful emperess. This palace has mostly wonderful gardens and views and it is perfect for fotography lovers.
When someone asks me, what I remember most from my holidays, it's this palace. It worth every penny. It is amazing building with beautiful gardens, wonderful statues, breathtaking view,... You can feel the history around you and if you listen electronic guide with information about palace, you can even feel presence of Sissi. I was so fascinated by this palace, that I made a presentation to school about the Achillieon.Just one thing I don't like - they don't warn you they make a photo of you and before you leave they try to sell it to you. That means there can be only part of you on the photo or your back or your face doesn't look good. However, I'd like to visit the Achillieon again.
On our last day, with nothing much to do as we'd returned our hire car we decided to walk from our apartment in benities to Achillion Palace. Quite a walk ,all uphill for about an hour ,but well worth the time and effort. It cost 7 euros entry fee then 3euros for taped guide ( a must have).the palace is beautiful and very interesting,it's history is quite recent and therefor you can still imagine how it would have been in its hay day. The grounds are lovely and the views stunning. All in all a good day out.
A lot to see when visiting this palace. Worth every penny. Must visit when visiting Corfu. Beautiful Gardens with wonderful statues. Breathtaking art inside.
lovely Palace on beautiful property with breathtaking views...a must see attraction when visiting Corfu...
