We rented a car and drove from the port to visit the winery as part of our exploration of the island. From the initial email inquiry about our visit (gracious reply from Marianna, one of the owners), to the welcome, tour, and tasting hosted by her niece, Nora, we felt welcomed. After a lot of experience with larger wineries in the US, watching the grapes being fed into a press the size of a large dining room table was a stunner. Followed by a tasting under the almond trees (4 tables). This is truly a small personally owned and managed business with actually very good wines! Nora gave us information on their limited US distributors and we are definitely following up!
The team have an obvious passion for quality, and share this through excellent customer service with friendly, insightful information. Wine tasting in this boutique winery is a fantastic experience (in line with the best around the world) with added extras of cheese & olive oil. To top an excellent experience, Gentilini offer a variety of surprisingly good wines! Olive oil is excellent too. Even in harvesting season with busy long days, we felt very welcome and loved the experience. Absolutely recommended activity and produce.
We went to this winery as part of a larger tour of Kefalonia. The host at the winery was very friendly and very knowledgeable as to wine. We also snacked on some bread, cheese, tomatoes, and olive oil. They were even so kind as to give us some samles of their honey, which we were told they don't typically do. The wines we sampled were excellent and it was great to see how they go about creating bottles of wine.
This is a small independent vineyard, our host Nora was absolutely amazing. She took us into the vineyard and told us about the history of the Winery and how wine is produced. She was knowledgeable and kept us entertained. We were shown around the bottling plant, were shown the process from grape to bottle. We tasted a section of wines and were given cheese and bread with olive oil. A great day
My daughter arranged a visit here in June for my birthday treat. An amazing place - a small independent vineyard. Our host was Nora, who was an absolute delight. A tour round the vineyard followed by a superb selection of wines with nibbles - sat in the shade - just great. They also arranged for a personal chef to come in and cook us a 3 course meal, again sat in the shade, with more great wines to enjoy. The meal was just fantastic -chef trading under the name of Bond Viveur. Cant recommend this place enough, and all very reasonably priced as well - so I'm told. Go there and enjoy - get the meal as well - you will not be disappointed.
We are sitting on our balcony enjoying a fruity white, Rombus.Nora was an amazing guide, ( not boring!) kept us entertained with her history of the family and Island. Lots of of excellent wines to sample and great olive oil, cheese and tomatoes to taste! Perfect way to wile away a couple of hours for those that like wine.Thank You Nora, a real asset and lovely person
Totally wonderful experience here last week, so much so I'm hopefully having my 40th here next year. The tour is fascinating and the wine tasting was delicious. We were just a small group of 5 and made to feel like treasured friends. A must see for all visitors to Kefalonia.
We enjoyed a wine tasting experience at the end of the afternoon. Sitting outside, we tasted six wines which were introduced by the niece of the owner , who was very knowledgeable . We had cheese, cubes of bread for dipping into their virgin olive oil and cherry tomatoes. A very pleasant experience, highly recommended .
We arranged a 'tour' of the Winery via email, and also enquired whether it would be possible to have a meal there as there were 7 of us in our group, and we thought it would enhance our visit. The owner ( who speaks perfect English) was very helpful and arranged an outside caterer ( ex-Pat Rory ) to come and produce the most wonderful al fresco Greek meal for us - chicken souvlaki from the bar-b-q, numerous delicious salads, followed by Baklava all of an excellent quality, and more than we could manage! This after spending an hour or so with the very knowledgeable owner, who is passionate about her business and taught us 'wine philistines' about the manufacture and consumption of the Gentilini range of wines - plenty of tasting and opportunity to purchase any we wished. All in all a memorable and educational day in the glorious vineyard surroundings - would thoroughly recommend and can't wait until this range of lovely and very drinkable wines are available to purchase at home.
This was only up the road from our hotel in Lassi so we decided to drop in; it helps that we like a nice bottle of wine. We were visiting slightly out of season so at the time of our visit were the only people there. For us this was a great thing as the lady in the shop/tasting area was able to give us her full attention and happily sat chatting with us whilst we tried the different wines on offer. If you're a fan of wine I would recommend visiting as they have a very nice Syrah, an excellent Robola, and an interesting Rose (it smells sweet but tastes nothing like you would expect). We had our young daughter with us but ultimately there is nothing there for kids; though the vineyards two dogs kept her entertained as they played around us.
We visited Gentilini the day before our wedding in Kefalonia with 40 of our wedding guests, having emailed Marianna on the lead up to the trip, they were kind enough to open up for us on a day that they would normally be closed being low season. on the day we were given a personal tour by the niece of the owner. She was fantastic, so helpful and was very good at answering all the questions that my father in law threw at her on the tour :) after the tour we had the pleasure of tasting 6 of their wines and enjoying a cheese and extra virgin olive oil tasting they had prepared. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience they were so welcoming and for the 5 euro it cost us, it was fantastic value for the experience you get. This is a family run vineyard and you can see the pride they take in everything they do, we will defiantly be visiting again on our next trip.
Our hotel recommended that could visit the winery - and it is well worth the visit! It is a family run place, and hence you can feel the pride they take in running and explaining the business. In the end, one wine operation is like the other in terms of equipment, but even if you have seen one already, this one is worth to visit for their special grapes that are partly only grown on Kefalonia. After drinking lots of half liter house wine with our meals, and already thought the Greek wine offering does not go beyond table wine, we were definitely convinced of the opposite, they have some really great reds and whites!
They kindly let us visit on a day they were supposed to be closed to the public. The setting is idyllic and the tour was very informative whether you are a wine novice or geek. We tasted a variety of wines and it looked like the aftermath of a great party by the time we had finished with bottles everywhere although they did put on a spread of bread, cheese, homegrown tomatoes and olive oil to soak up some of the alcohol. We were lucky enough to be joined by Chris their winemaker who came across as really passionate and genuinely seemed to appreciate our feedback on the wines. We came away with a few of our favorites which we are looking forward to trying again at home. We would definitely pop in again on another trip just to see how their wines are progressing. There was no hard sell here either.
My wife and I visited the winery on the day of our wedding anniversary and although it was closed for tours due to it being off season, we were given a personal tour by the niece of the owner. She was very informative, passionate, and answered all the questions we could possibly think off! My wife and I have always been red wine drinkers but we have truly been converted to white as we both love the Aspro Classic. Hope to visit the island again soon and we will definitely be picking up another few bottles on the way by! Thank you to the owner for your kind hospitality.
we had a good tour round the winery, its interesting to see how wine is made and bottled, our guide was Esme she was awesome
