yet again Irene & Alan are great hosts, most evenings with a glass or two of wine and more sunsets, what more could you want. I agree with a previous post the cats are absolutely no bother whatsoever and if a tray of biscuits is worry/problem do not look! least the cats are very well treated and loved especially me. we are booked for next year and will try not to smuggle a cat or 3 back but there will by tears if I do, keep up the brilliant work you two

We visited hemingways every night for last drinks never a dull moment Alan and Irene were the perfect couple great music Alan would make my perfect DJ will be going back for cert next year all4 of us

2nd time in Sissi, love this bar. Great location overlooking the harbour, good cocktails, cold beer and nostalgic music. We called in most nights of our holiday and were always welcomed by Alan and Irene. Don't understand previous comments, yes Alan and Irene do have friends call around, we would be surprised if they didn't, but we were always served promptly and spoken too. You will always end up discussing the music with other customers, don't think we heard the same track twice during our fortnight stay. Cat's, yes Alan and Irene look after a few cat's, they dont bother you and the place doesn't smell of cat pee. If a small beer tray of cat biscuits, on the steps to inside of the bar offends, I suggest you give it a miss, but it will be your loss. We will certainly return.

The Hemingway is getting better each time we visit. Alan and Irene work very hard and very long hours to make your visit enjoyable.Alan's music selection is just brilliant, I heard things that l hadn't for years and it's good to walk along memory lane with a nice cold glass or two of wine overlooking the harbour.Great company as always and we look forward to seeing you again in 2015

This was our third year of visiting Alan & Irene at Hemingways, as always, excellant service and chat. We love the cats, so no problem for us. I don't understand people moaning about them, it's not as though they are jumping all over you?Alan & Irene do their best to accommadate every one, they can't chat to everyone at the same time as complained about in some of the reviews, They will chat with you if that is what you like, otherwise they will leave you to enjoy the atmosphere. Give them a chance!We are not in Sissi next year but will be back in 2016 and Hemingways will be our usual first port of call when we get there! Sue & Daz xxxOxfordshire

Great bar with lovely view over the harbour, good music, wine and friendly welcome by the owners. Lots of cats who are well looked after, missing them already!

On first encountering Hemingway, had a very pleasant evening drinking cocktails and chatting with the owner Alan, and the lovely cat Tinkerbelle. Situtated in a beautiful spot overlooking the harbour I had planned to revisit several times over the week I was in Sissi and arranged with the friends I was staying with to go there the next evening.Unfortunately, the hostess (whom I understand is called Irene) was not the hostess with the mostess! Seated with friends, she made us feel quite unpleasant to want to try to get seated on the edge nearest the pavement with little room for manoeurvre turning her back and mumbling something. What a shame, as for this reason, we avoided Hemingway for the rest of our stay. One good point - the cats are well looked after and looked very healthy.... and much more hospitable....

This was the only negative experience on our trip to Sissi . As per many others we felt we were intruding into a private party .. in fact the landlady told us that she had friends in and sat with them giving us the full view of her back!! .The cats were amusing until you realised how many there were and I'm not sure there freedom to room was best practice in this type . I felt the place was tired and lacked attention of a duster and mop . Perhaps if you could visit this place every night and become the owners" friends" it might become your kind of place but for a casual drink there are many more more welcoming place with views of the harbour

We have just returned from a wonderful two week break in Sissi. Before our trip I had looked on trip advisor for some suggestions for places for an evening drink. Hemingways was on the list so on our first evening we found ourselves there. This was the first of many evenings in the company of Alan and Irene who made us feel so welcome it really was like sitting with friends. My husband shared his love of all things WW2 with Alan and talked about our trip to a museum up in the mountains. Drinks were amazing and the location was perfect!! Will definitely return !!!

We went to the Hemingway 3 or 4 times on our holiday because of the good view of the harbor and good cocktails/drinks but the owners of the bar- a middle-aged couple were not really that welcoming (sitting with their friends drinking) but on our third visit to Hemingway we were recognized and shown better attention and we were made to feel more welcome, so maybe it's a question of how many times you go? Owners definitely have a soft spot for cats as they put out a bowl of water and food for their 3-4 cats and the strays of Crete! Music is really good if you like 60s 70s 80s music! The owners run a quiz on Sunday nights to test you in this type of music! Reasonable priced drinks but owners could of been more welcoming- it doesn't hurt to try! Not recommended for families with babies or young children as it does not give a children- friendly atmosphere but okay for families with Teenagers!

Great music and atmosphere the owners Alan and Irene really nice people and brilliant at getting people together. Lots of laughs, and a beautiful spot to watch sun go down. clean bar yes cats but looked after and lovely . Looved it . X

Visited on our recent holiday to the island. Owners absolutely lovely with their cats! Reasonable priced drinks with great view to the harbour. Ended up sitting till early hours of the morning there and got loads of good tips what to do and not to do.

Hemingways sits in a wonderful setting by the side of Sissi harbour and is owned by at least seven cats who employ two wonderful slaves Irene & Alan. If you don't like cats then stay away, if you do then come and enjoy good company, and very reasonably priced drinks in this relaxing setting. Alans choice of music will bring back memory's if you like the 60's 70's and 80's style and he runs a quiz on Sunday afternoons to test your brain

In an otherwise friendly environment and a nice view of the sissi harbor they have a serious problem with the cats..i like animals too but that thing was beyond proportion..as soon as i sat the strong smell of cat poo was there and i noticed that they had some sand boxes for the cats to poo in right in front of me and my family..there are cats hair everywhere including of course inside our drinks..completely unsanitary..public health danger folks..not recommending it at all..

Just returned to the UK and miss the Hemingway already. Great company, super music and good stocks of nice beers and wines - Coldest white wine in Sissi, well done guys.My wife particularly enjoys this bar as there are a few cats around which is OK by me, and she is mad on cats. In fact she's just mad but hey ho !Alan's music quiz on a Sunday is always popular and well attended and l suggest that you pop along there to get the little grey cells working. Back to Sissi again in September and out first port of call will be the Hemimgway. Well done guys you both work very hard to keep us entertained.
