I hesitated between Mayerhofen and Zillertal Arena. Don't worry the same ski pass can be used for both and for more ski domains. You have more than 500 km of ski slopes. The facilities are very modern. You have a website (skiline.cc) were you can follow your achievements every day.I was there high season and still once you're in the mountain the queues are relatively fast. The ski pass is expensive, between the most expensive in Europe but worthwhile.

Highly recommend this ski resort! A lot of slopes with variety of difficulty, however they fit better for middle and advanced levels then beginners :) The prices are average for skipass and ski rental. They have a big free parking area onsite. They are closing at 16:30 and if you're late for last lift you have a kind of challenge to get down because the ski lane to the bottom takes about an hour for middle level skier (not recommended for beginners).

Plenty of red runs and a few challenging black slopes. Not many blue runs for beginners. Cannot ski down to Zell, but queues from Rosenbahn Mid station are not bad even when busy compared to other routes.

With friends have skiing vacation in Zillertal valley. Infrastructure is made ok, but number of people and their behaviuor made experience worser than we could estimate from typical Austrian services

you have to chose your base location with some thought. it is cheaper to stay in Zell and a shorter drive as compared to Gerlos. However if you stay in Zell you have to ski only in one direction and make for a long day to get all the way to the end. When staying in Gerlos you cut the resort in half and then depending on the weather can decide which way to go. In my opinion Zell have steeper runs and Gerlo-Platten is much easierIt is a great resort and has plenty to offer, including a traffic jam to get into (and out) of the valley!

Only discovered this on our last day (the glacier seemed to be the better attraction) but turned out to be a fantastic area if there is good snow down low. Huge area of piste. Lots of good reds and they take you through some really interesting areas

A lot of blacks and reds just few of blues. Would not recommend for beginners, beginners should go to Hochzillertal.

We just skied and stayed at Mayrhofen, which is the magnet for skier's in the Ziller Valley. However there is always a crowd to ascend the "Penken" ski area. We were taken to the Zillertal Arena which is near Zell-Am-Ziller and can be reached by narrow gauge railway or ski bus. The boast is that the snow is always better here than at Mayrhofen. We joined the area at the Rosenalm Gondolier (stay on right to the top, don't get off a the half way station) When we skied the sun shone and we did have to wait for 10 minutes to get on the gondolier. After that it was wonderful snow and no waiting at the lifts. We had a fabulous day (Oh My Thigh's) and finished up at Gerlos. You can of course exit where you joined. The cost is covered by the purchase of a ski area pass and when back home you can check your distance/height etc covered on-line.

If you are into heavy skiing, Zillertal is great.I stayed in Mayrhofen and finished all slopes in day one and started to worry about my choice of resort, but then I found about the rest of Zillertal Valley. The Buses and the Train connects the whole valley and is always free.A local bus will take you to a Train& Bus Station "BAHNOF", from whre you can take another bus or train to other villages. The best village by far is KALTENBACH. Its the biggest and is southfacing so you have light/sun on the slopes almost all day. Its is 15 minutes away - about 10 miles.Hintertux was was 2nd favourite. Over 3000m, beautiful glacier skiing, guaranteed snow, and sometimes above the clouds so worth visiting especially on a snowy day (you could be above the weather)Zell Am Zillertal/Gerlos is 3rd choice, northfacing, so you loose the light by late afternoon but good runs.Mayrhofen is the most famous village - mainy British tourists, my 4th choiceWould go again, but never with kids. It takes you 1 hour to get upto the slopes. All villages are at 600-800 meters and you usually need 2 buses + 2 cable cars to get up to 1500meters

Zillertal Arean we went there for our skiing holiday. It has some nice areas a lot of red areas, no green and some blue/black, for beginners you want some green to practice. The great thing you can go skiing to gerlos, that was a fun and challenging course, but for a mature it was also ok. Good lift transportation,

Brilliant, it goes up really slow but going down you can control the speed! It can get quite fast and feels extremely safe!

If you are into snowsports, the zilleral arena gives you may resorts on one ticket. Mayrhofen, Hintertux, Lanersbach, Eggalm, Koningsleiten, Lermoos, Zell Am Ziller all in an arms reach (well more or less). I prefer the Hintertux Glacier, Mayrhofen and Koningsleiten for snowboarding. Mayrhofen is a great placec for apre ski activities and many restaurants....some of them really good and "cool'. They organize concerts as well in the town and sometimes you some events are organized in the center which makes it a real young placec to be. Even for old geezers as my self, who still boards in his late 40's. I prefer to go november or march/april as it gets a bit quieter on the runs but in general this part of Tirol is worth the stay...been going there now for 20 years.

Visited here in summer and highlights included the summer toboggan run which was great fun plus the cable car. Lovely, well-marked, walking trails from each of the cable car stations back to the Zillertal Arena. Looks like mountain bikers are well catered for too with their own paths/tracks - although we didn't try this. Good play options for kids at the Arena itself too.

Lots to do in Zillertal in Summer. The Arena Coaster is a perfect thrill with a nice playground below for those too young or those who choose to opt-out :-)

Loved the downhill coaster!Great value, though I wish the queue wasn't so long and I could have gone on it more times!
