The castle was closed for reconstruction when we travelled on 28 february 2015. For the parking of bigger car, like our camper, 7 meters McLouis, man ran out of his cafe from the opposite side of the road, showing us this little space in front of the castle. Happy, they are working on this project, thou not many tourists travelling in winter, but we love it!

It is the most well preserved castle I have ever seen. Located on the seashore. Was once the popular spot for old-time Turkish action movies.

Recep, the gardener was a excellent tour guide. What he didn't know about in terms of history he made up on in pointing out great views and wildlife (lizards, turtles and bats). The Castle is awesome, and you have (at your own risk) the freedom to clamber all over it. There is little in the way of safety so be careful, but your care will be rewarded with stunning views. The history is intriguing and I will need to look some of it up now that I'm back home. A must do if you are in the area.

This is the medieval castle I've always imagined, and at only 3 tl per person (and you well may have the place to yourself) it shouldn't be missed. Climb one or more of the turrets for a spectacular view.

This is a lovely place to visit and explore. It was 3 TL per person and you could wander around as long as you like. The man who sells the tickets is very proud of his gardens outside the castle and loves to talk to visitors - his English is quite good. Sign the visitor book and look at the photos he has collected. There were lots of young turtles swimming in the moat at the castle entrance, and these were interesting to watch.

This Castle is the very best I have ever seen. Went there with our Daughter Corrine Rekrut the author of this trip review and her Husband Chris Rekrut.Its everything and more, so I really have nothing to all. It's a must see if in the area.

This Castle is one of the best I have viewed in this region of Turkey. One being that it has been restored in places, so the outer walls are fully intact, and second it’s somewhat level. Not just cause it’s located at Sea level, but he interior court yard of the castle itself is flat and safe to walk with no obstacles like rubble and holes as most castles in Turkey have. You can still climb stairs around the castle walls and towers for great views and photo ops. If you have the pleasure of visiting the castle alone, the grounds keeper will give you a private tour ensuring you see every nook and cranny. He has limited English but he was still very pleasant and easy to understand, and most of all he’s very patient allowing time for all your pictures and kids to run amuck. He is also very protective and concerned for safety and loves to hold your hand to escort you down skinny corridors or dark stairs.Prior to his tour he will charge you the regular fee of 5Lira each (kids Free). And at the end of our private tour we gave him a large tip and took his picture. The castle has a moat with tons of turtles and frogs. From what we understood; the turtles were shipped in from Indonesia, but then bred with the local Sea turtle population which created the cross breed of turtles living in the moat today. The guide also told us that there were originally 36 cannons in the castle, yet only one remains on display at the entrance. Make sure you sign the guest book and view the photo album of previous guests and older pics of the castle and what the grounds used to look like. The grounds keeper also has a rose garden, but it was not in bloom during our visit. We drove here from Adana and it is well worth the trip, especially if you also add in the local attractions of the Ancient city of Anemurium and Softa Castle. None of us needed to use the restroom during our visit so I am not sure if there are any on site. There was a trailor parked at the entrance which might be bathrooms?

This castle from the 13th century was built right on the sea shore and still has a real moat around it. I visited on a beautiful sunny day and I had the place 100% to myself. Climb up in the tower (be careful of the stairs) for a creepy feeling but awesome views. When the Seljuk's (?) took the castle in the early 1300's, the added a cute little mosque in the outer courtyard, and the mosque has been updated throughout the years (including modern recorded call to prayer now); the juxtaposition of the modern-ish looking mosque within the medieval castle walls is stunning.

great castle, the drive to it is fantastic, but take your time the road is dangerous with many curves, but they are putting in a new freeway.

I visit this castle everytime i visit Anamur. It is very nice to hang around in, imagining the lives in the past. It is very well preserved that it is used in some Turkish hystorical movies. I also recommend the boat tour starting from Iskele which visit both Mamure castle and Anemurium. It is nice to view this castle from a boat, because its walls start with the sea.

This castle is just like all of the movies with the tesselated walls, drawbridge over a filled moat and little turrets which you can shoot arrows from.The space inside the walls has several walls, rooms and chapels as well as rubble ruins. There is also a mosque which was built after the turks took control of the castle. Wandering through allows you to understand how people would have lived if under siege. Climbing inside the walls provides great photo opportunities, particularly at sunset.The only downside was as it was end of season the caretaker didn't have change for our entrance tickets but he closed up and went into town to get change before he would let us in to the castle.

The Mamure Castle dates from 1300s, during the first wave of Turkic-Near Eastern tribes advancement into the Anatolian peninsula. It was used as a look-out and foothold in the relatively eastern med; before the armies started advancing towards more wealthy and civilised western roman cities.The castle is remarkably well preserved. Right on the beach. Recep (the keeper) has a beautiful garden or roses and so proud of them. The mock-moat is full with turtles and frogs. Entry costs 3TL per person. Beware that the inside of the castle is not secured or well-lit, so you need a very good pair of non-slip shoes, ideally a small torch for dark sections and a somewhat brave attitude to climb up to the top sections. I do not recommend children to be left to explore on their own. The castle garden is so delightful, with the light wind and the sounds from the sea, you just want to sit there and be.

Great location for a castle to explore in a reasonably relaxed way. The gardener (Recep) guided us around and knows all the good photo spots. Take a little time to explore on your own as well. the old mosque in the mid section is delightful. Roses will be lovely in a month, turtles and frogs in the moat, great place.

The ticket collector/caretaker is very proud of his roses and very nice and helpful. Look for the moats turtles. Big open empty area inside. Sunset from the walls is amazing.
