The utca has many restaurants and bars as well as the traditional cake shops. The National Theatre of Pecs in the middle of the utca is beautiful!
One of the old streets that are the centerpiece of the walking area in Pecs. A lot of restaurants for all shapes and sizes. :) Be sure to spend some time there and enjoy.
Even that Pecs has many nice-looking streets, it is most likely that Kiraly utca will be the leader of your attention because there are many nice touristic-friendly things located on his street.Hotel Palatinus, which is located close to Szechenyi ter, is one of them. Even that this hotel might disappoint you with old furniture in its rooms, you shouldn't miss a chance to spend at least one night in this hotel to enjoin its noble lobby, spectacular views from your room and its majestic breakfast in the royal interior for a very reasonable price. But if you don't have such an opportunity, then don't miss a chance to take couple of pictures of its exteriors. The National Theater of Pecs is another attraction located on Kiraly utca if you will continue walking down the street away from Szechenyi ter. It might be tricky to get tickets if you buy them on the day of the show. If it unfortunately happened to you, then you can always enjoy the view of the theater from the outside sitting in one of the nearby benches. Street musician will make sure that the show that you missed inside the theater will be compensated by his musical abilities outside. Many restaurants, coffee shops, souvenir stores and some little museums will be also found by you while walking on this street. If you will continue walking in the opposite direction from Szechenyi ter, Kiraly utca will turn into Felsovamhaz utca, which will lead till Zsolnay Cultural Quarter, where you will find exhibitions of the famous Hungarian porcelain. Finally, McDonald's is another touristic-friendly place located at the beginning of this street with amazing view to Szechenyi ter.The only thing that really disappointed us is the fact that not many souvenir stores were open in one weekend in January during our stay. And those, which were open, had very tricky working schedule that didn't fit into opening hours written on the entrance doors. All in all, we (a couple) highly recommend you to spend some hours on this street.
Here's where you'll find yourself wishing you had more time to stop and enjoy and afternoon coffee (or be happy you have time to do so)! The place to watch people, enjoy the architecture, have an al fresco meal and top it off with gelato.
We enjoyed strolling down this pedestrian street. It took a lot of courage to close off traffic to this busy part of the Centrum, but it is a pleasant experience just to stroll and discover architecture, eat a gelato and do some "people watching".
Pretty quick to walk through, at least the part that has the Theatre, shops and restaurants. It gets more lively in the afternoon of course, but we enjoyed it throughout the whole day. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed, it is not a shopping street, just a casual sort of 'main' caffe street.I recommend sitting down somewhere and relaxing with a drink, meal or ice-cream. The tourist car-train goes through frequently so you can 'ride' the street as well.
Pecs's city center has currently undergone some restoration, but when I was visiting the city, it was all but finished. The shops were average, or below average. It can't be compared to shopping steets of Western European cities. We saw an Irish pub on the street, but inside it wasn't Irish at all. It was a loud place with drunk people and some terrible local pop music from the 70s. Finally we decided to go to a McDonald's, which seemed the best option. It's a shame, because it could be a very nice shopping district with wonderful architectural gems. But all the better stores are located in a mall not far from here. The street was full of beggars and drunks, and I didn't feel safe at all, especially in the area further from the main square.
This is the street to go to if your near the centre of the old town.Nice restaurants ( recommend Etkezo especially ) and continental feel to the place.
The street is easily accessible from Szechenyi square or from the eastern end where you have the new cultural center. The street very cosy and friendly in summer when you can sit one of the terraces of a pub or restaurant. You cannot find a lot of shops or boutiques here, but more pubs and restaurants. Hotel palatinus is in the street, and also the National Theatre of Pécs. The small touristic car-train crosses the street in summer time, make a hope off to taste a local beer, draft Szalon, the dark is better then the pils....
During our day in Pecs, of course we had to stop for lunch, and so we sought out one of the nicer restaurants on this street. The center of the city has apparently been given a recent face lift, and that is true of this street as well. It's lovely, but we didn't spend any time there. The area around the cathedral, with several museums and the incredible early Christian tombs, is much more worthy of your time.
If you like the King's Road of London then you will like this road too though less glamorous. It is very conveniently situated in the middle of Pecs just off the main square. It plays host to restaurants, quaint little cafes, wine bars, pubs, the National Theatre with a lovely water feature outside it and great hair dressing salons. The cobble road is a lovely walk to get a feel for the town with many students rushing through it, particularly busy in summer and autumn. Winter sees mulled wine and delicious filo pastry being sold here, perfect to get in the mood for the cold Christmas. There is also a hotel in the road and plenty of small shops. Where it lacks is better quality shops and some sort of policing to get rid of beggers and pickpocketers.
Neat walking street, quite vast and, maybe too empty but nonetheless a good afternoon walk. If you are discoring Hungary, that's neat - if you already know well hungary its too much kinna of the same.
Kiraly street is the main walking street in Pecs; it is lined by beautiful houses from the heyday of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, and is full of restaurants, cafe and bistros. It is a must-see attraction in Pecs.
Plenty of different things to see, bars, restaurants, shops. The Hungarians are very litter conscious and always put their litter in the bins.
I was lucky and stayed at a hostel located on this street. It is lined with cafes, bars, ice cream parlors, and restaurants. It's a wonderful spot to take photos and ends in the main square of Pecs. At night there are quite a few people begging for money on this street.
