I couldn't Imagine the site, people still live as in roman times. You can find coins and parts of ceramics anywhere you go. It is undiscovered beauty for ancient culture lovers. The museum is beautiful, one could not imagine how well the sculptures are preserved. It is one of five "in situ" museums in Europe, it was built at the area of ancient Augusteum. Whole village is full of "spolias", as a Museum in open. One must see this beauty.

Unfortunately, we only had a short time in Dalmatia, Narona Museum in Vid was recommended and we are certainly glad we included this in our trip! The artefacts are fascinating and the fact that the museum is 'in situ' provides a real sense of place in history. Highly recommend. We also had lunch across from the museum at Dude & Mate and can highly recommend that as well - in front of a lovely warm fire on a cold spring day. All in all an awesome day!

Narona Archaeological Museum is situated on remains of Roman temple od imperial cult and inside of it are presereved sculptures of the members of imperial family (Augustus, Livia, Tiberius, Claudius, Vespasian...) what makes this museum very special. There is also possible to see simple mosaic floor of cella, inscriptions found in the area of temple, parts of archictecture and many interesting artifacts. Village od Vid is very nice to take a walk to because it is situated on the coast of river Neretva and during the walk you can enjoy nature and in found in walls of house reused some part of ancient monuments. I can really recommend to visit this museum and site.

We spent a month exploring Croatia and this was our last stop on our tour and what a find. This was real antiquities from Roman times, not plaster replicas and fake murals. I wish we had time to explore this site more but our time was limited. Our guide was quite good (thanks Ivan) and we learned quite a bit about the 20,000 Romans who lived on this site.A good way to spend several hours in learning more about the Romans and how their culture left its mark on Croatia.

It is rare to find an archaeological site in which both the architecture and its sculpural decoration are virtually intact and preserved. This is a gem of a site which is well worth the short detour if you are motoring from Dubrovnik to Split. A modern museum building covers the site with the statues and minor arts well displayed within. I think it is a do not miss site.

It is not easy to claim the primacy among very rich archeological sites in Croatia, but the Narona museum compeats with the best. A relatively compact museum has it all: Roman statues, a very rich numismatic collection, antique glass products, mosaics, erotic designs and the Roman doctor's bag in perfect condition. A beautiful views of the fields of Neretva valley. A real treat.
