This was my first ski experience and unfortunately it could have been a lot better. On the first day we were all paired with an instructor from Boro Sports. My partner in the intermediate category has given nothing but positive praise for his ski instructor and the group he was pair with.As a beginner, and not having a sporty bone in my body, I was very nervous about learning to ski, the instructor that took my group was an absolute dragon, had no patience with beginners and humiliated you by shouting at you or speaking in a really condescending patronising manner. By the end of the first day the group had dwindled from 10 to 5 people (the others choosing to teach themselves or change instructor). Unfortunately, I was unwell the following day and felt i could not join another beginner class as i would be less experienced and unable to keep up with what they had learnt already. My partner really enjoyed his Borovets experience, he said there were enough slopes of all colours to keep him occupied and interested. The lifts were all working and the snow conditions could not have been better.
Take a break from the slopes and go for a ride through the woods and snow with riding school Butch. Great fun, excellent guide and smooth arrangements that can aslo be booked through the office in Hotel Rila. Excellent for us as a couple as only I ski. Will definitely do a longer ride next time.
Booked a week through Crystal ski as a package from 7-14 March 2015, both of us total ski novices having never done it before. Luck would have it that the week saw Borovets get the best snow in the whole of Europe for the whole season. The ski school was superb; Lyubo our instructor was excellent and patient with us and by the end of the week we were skiing confidently down the blue runs. The scenery is breathtaking especially along the musala pas and there are a great choice of green, blue, red and black slopes. Unfortunately my fiancée fell and suffered a concussion and the medical centre team was really good and even arranged a follow up with the neurologist at the local hospital. There's a lot of atmosphere and the apres ski is increadible fun; you can do as much or as little as you like! There's a great choice of restaurants too and we didn't really have one bad meal. As seems typical in Eastern Europe planning laws don't seem to follow logic so there are a lot of strip clubs interspersed with the family friendly restaurants and shops and there's no requirement for their advertising to be discreet shall we say. I have lived in Lithuania and travelled in Latvia and Estonia in the past and it's the same all over so it's just a quirk you get used to and there's no point getting up tight - Borovets has a lively reputation anyway so it's all part of the deal you sign up to. There are plenty of those who turn their noses up at Bulgaria as a ski destination but the jokes on them as far as I can see. No it doesn't have a name like Mirabel or St. Moritz but there's more snow, the people are friendlier and it costs about 1/4 the price to book and is dirt cheap when your out here so as far as I can see you pays your money and takes your choice. I would love to come back and recommend it to anyone wishing to learn to ski.
Skiing just as good as all the top resorts and for a fraction of the price , been here twice and will be going back again next March .
Iv been skiing for the last three years here and the mountains are a real good sight, this place always has snow when I come, this years has a rediclus is amount. Food is good with plenty of option. Everything's cheap! If your booking with an holiday agent don't! Book on boiling.com for hotel and fly wizz air. Even tho it's cheap you can fly vip and fast track for pence.
This was our first experience of skiing and snowboarding and we found the resort catered well for our needs
pistes in great condition, very good value, hotels good-ski school was great, instructor very friendly and encouraging although kids class was quite crowded in the half term week
Many slopes for all different types of levels, easy to get round, was busy on certain slopes, night skiing is fantastic.
Stayed at the hotel rila borovets for the first time stayed with my husband and two children and traveled with another family . Read some of the reviews on the hotel and was quite concerned as we like nice hotels and the some of the reviews were quite bad . The rooms are basic but clean ideal served a purpose . Can be quite noisy which didn't cause a problem but was so tired nothing was waking me . Lots of security if you are having a problem with noisy neighbours .Breakfast is fine . Evening meal less so . Go with a open mind and enjoy the experience . Plenty of places to eat out , and very reasonable . Defiantly would return location fantastic , people friendly . Overall a great holiday or experience . Skidoos we're so much fun to .
Had last couple of days of two week Bulgarian trip in Borovets and can honestly say that it wasn't bad at all. I would highly recommend staying down the hill in Samokov to bypass the rip off tourist trap bars and restaurants up in Borovets.
Enjoyed our second visit skiing in Borovets. It felt like coming home. A lovely quaint village, good runs, night time skiing if you want. Amazing. The only disappointment was the ski instructor actually ASKED for a tip, saying he deserved it. He had been very good and the group had had a collection for him but this did seem a bit rude.
liked it all, great location, short transfer from airport, lots of bars and restaurants if you want it but you don't have to, supermarkets too. apparently lots of stag and hen dos but we didn't notice... too tired after a day on the slopes. cheap food, go for it!
Tony is a great instructor, we had a great time, everyone and I mean everyone is just great.. Don't just think about going book it..
Half the price of the mainstream resorts. Unpretentious. Compact, ski in, ski out. Easy access to gondola and lift system
People v friendly, lovely scenic skiing. Can be v busy so be careful. Good ski runs which keep you busy. only 1 gondola which can have queues but worth the wait.
